Strategies for Finding Cheap Flights?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Kayak searches all of those. Common sense will get you cheaper fares. For instance, if you can fly during the week, do it. Mornings? Go for it. Red-eyes? Awesome. Basically, fly during the times when other people can't or don't want to.

That's kayak.com, by the way. You're welcome, Kayak administrators.

if you plan on staying at a hotel, booking it with the flight can often save you considerable money. If you call hotels in advance many offer a complimentary shuttle service from the airport (duh) but will also provide local transport (to your interview) which can save you some time, money and stress

Also....I find flights are cheapest on Tues, Wed, Thurs....so if you have the option to try to schedule you interview so you can fly in and out on those days.

Travelocity.com is good for combo pack(flight and hotel). or try the airlines website themselves

When do you guys usually book by? I'm trying to figure out whether to wait or not

edit: anyone ever do red-eye before an interview?

I usually book a month or two in advance, or as soon as I find a flight that will fit my price range. It's a gamble trying to find the absolute cheapest flight possible. Often, you wait too long and the prices will just get more expensive.

Did you sign up for Bing's flight notifications? That way the site will send you an email when it finds a cheap flight for your specified route.
