I'm pre-pod and having the hardest semester of my life. Any other pre-pods who can relate? Im taking:

Cell Biology with Lab
Comparative Anatomy with Lab
Chem II Lab
Basic Spanish I (with Lab, smh)

I am also conducting molecular/ecology based research and working as a TA on campus.

I'm not sure if its the coursework or the fact that I took two classes over the summer and only had a two week break between last spring semester and this one. 😱

I feel your pain. Fall of my sophmore year I had an absolutely brutal schedule also. I was taking physics, organic chem, physiology, and statistics. Funny thing is that ended up being one of my highest semester GPAs. All I can tell you is just study as hard as you can and try to plow through this semester. It might suck at times but treat it like it is practice for what med school will be like. It will be over before you know it.

Well it doesn't get any less stressful when you get here... trust me.... Might as well get used to the intense workload.

Thanks for the replies! Any advance on how to manage the workload now and during pod school?

Try to treat it like a full time job. If you don't have classes until the afternoon, wake up early and study for a few hours before class and vice versa. I used this strategy all throughout undergrad and rarely ever studied past 9pm.

For when you get to school...It's geared from a Medical Student perspective, but the same relevance for Pod School. I read this a few months before starting, and now I hate pancakes... GL, take one day at a time and try not to get behind. Remember, it doesn't get any easier from here 🙂

Gets much harder. Multiply your pre-medical curricula by 10x. That is podiatric medical school.

I feel you OP.
I'm taking
Bio with lab
Ochem with lab
Physics with lab
2 of theology classes
So I have classes from 8:30 to 6 everyday and I commute 2 hrs from home to school everyday.
I also work 20hrs a week 40 mins commute to work.
You are not alone man.. cheer up!

Lovely. How are your grades looking? You keeping up with all your school work okay?

5 science classes at pod school? Im starting to feel better already. Now thats insane...

Not insane. Reality. That's how it is. Also when I was going through we had classes overlap themselves. No fluff classes. No "electives".

I remember getting the first hand out for Histology and thinking "This isn't so bad. I have a whole semester to learn this stuff", only to be told we had an exam on ALL that material NEXT WEEK. And after that exam, our next handout was twice the size.

Pod school is much harder than undergrad.... but let me point something out. When I was a sophmore I could NEVER handle the schedule I have now. I would drop out...

Every year of college it gets a little harder. I worked much harder my sophomore year then my freshman year... I worked harder my senior year then my junior year. You will work harder your 1st year of pod school compared to your senior year. So, yes school gets harder but you (in theory) become a better student and are better able to absorb the course load.

Just keep at it. Yes, it gets much harder. But you also get much better with time.

(and yes I realize this is a model and some out there maybe had a fluffy senior year of college, etc, etc. But for me this was the case. I became a better student with each passing year).

Thank you. I totally feel the weight of this semester but I also believe I get smarter every semester 😀.

This workload is nothing. Wait until you start 1st year podiatry school. Tons of handouts condensed with tons of information to memorize in a short period of time. By the end of 1st year, you will have "mountains" of handouts of tons of information. And worst of all, you cannot cram in podiatry school like you can in college. You will fail if you cram alot, or get a C the highest if you are plain lucky. And it does not get any easier as you advance into your podiatry school years. So, get used to your college schedule. Make it a habit now. You will thank yourself big time.
