I'm preparing to apply to a medicine sub-specialty fellowship. I'm starting to work on my personal statement and I'm realizing that I'm not completely sure how it should be structured and what I should be focusing on? I'm wondering if anybody might be willing to offer me some direction on this?

Even the most basic information, such as the # of words it should be, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

1 page. You will lose interest after that

Go back to your IM PS and do the following:
1. Take out all the touchy-feely "helping people" bulls**t (unless you're applying for Geri or Palliative Care)
2. Replace it with some platitudes about the sub-specialty you're interested (presumably Hem/Onc, since you posted in the Hem/Onc sub-forum)
3. Profit

Seriously, nobody really reads them past the first and last paragraph. 30-60 seconds of attention at the most.

Thanks so much for the responses. I really appreciate them.
