Hey gday people, im new to this forum and live in sydney.
Just wanted to know is there any way you can practice your dexterity skills for normal class preps and fills...i mean usually your uni should let you practice for extra hours, if help is needed but my school is being down right stingy and saying its a disadvantage ( actually its just costing them more) to other students if i get extra practice hours, so there no way to practice apart from the 6 comp. sim lab hours a week...so i wanted to know is there any good places to get a drill kit without needed attachment to a unit and also of course teeth, however i cant exactly practice with my tooth in a phantom head because i wouldnt have one at home...if there also any other good dexterity tips such as painting or sewing id like to hear it as it would be greatly appreciated...cheers

holy crap, what school do you go to?

I would be really interested to know which school this is. I am simply amazed that they would actually discourage you from practicing procedures/hand skills. The whole point of dental school is to learn how to become a dentist, and how is restricting the amount of practicing conducive to this end goal? I am truly baffled with this approach to dental education...

He says he lives in Sydney, so I presume he's in Australia now.

You can buy everything yourself if you wish, with exception of the vacuum mechanism to run your handpieces. Mannequin heads are sold by Kilgore, and you can attach it to any wooden table. Plastic teeth are available too. You may be able to find yourself a motorized handpiece set. I know they make them, and we have a set for the slow speed for use in Endo. The highest setting is far short of the 350k-400k rpm, however.

Use good technique and your hand skills will come naturally.
