Honestly, as creative as this may look, without proper education this thing can totally go.. oh so wrong. You need to understand about occlusion, teeth arrangements, and a lot of cephalometric analysis. I can easily think of some things that can make your teeth be in an even worse condition: attrition and trauma, misalignment, and periodontal diseases. There's a reason we have specialists for orthodontic cases... It's not easy!!!
I dunno. He made it seem pretty easy.Honestly, as creative as this may look, without proper education this thing can totally go.. oh so wrong. A dentist made the exact comment on an article I read! Another dental student on another article said something similar and got crap for it lol

Lol really? Idk man... I learned ortho and I realized that there is a lot more to it. Honestly, I don't care what people think, I just personally won't do it myself without proper education/ knowledge. 🙂
Yeah well... I guess I should've made myself more clear. It's not easy to do it properly. There are just a lot of adverse effects from bad orthodontic practices.
Here's one case that may change your mind:
(I understand that this is not exactly the same, but use this as a reference point. One thing I know is that we need to apply light, continuous force when doing ortho. This case might violate that rule).

Yeah! I had a conversation with one of my buddies about the coconut oil thing a while back.Speaking of "do it yourself" dentistry,
Have yall heard about using coconut oil or oil pulling for cavities? Lol

yes
comes up in social situations frequently, people asking my opinion of this.
I generally just pretend like I didn't hear them and wander away

What is the theory behind this new practice? If any? lol
The theory behind it?
Probably weird Instagram hippies. Totally serious.
This ranks up there with most annoying things that happen in social situations right behind "DENTIST XYZ TOTALLY SCREWED SOMETHING UP IN MY MOUTH IF I OPEN REALLY BIG DO YOU THINK YOU CAN LOOK AND TELL ME WHATS WRONG?!"
To which I always answer "sorry, graduating dental school does not give one X-ray vision powers"
