Hi everyone,

im currently abroad and am taking finals soon...my school only takes my study abroad grades as CR/NC, so therefore it will not be counted toward my AMCAS gpa. however, i am concerned that my slacking off will come back to haunt me, since i heard that some secondary applications ask for your abroad transripts. is this true? If so, which schools ask for it--do columbia, cornell, harvard, and other top tier schools? let me know ASAP because finals are in a week! haha, thanks and good luck with ur apps.

I studied abroad and wondered the same thing. From someone who's gone through the process, I can tell you straight out that no top tier school I've applied (Columbia and the likes) requires a transcript from a study abroad institution if its not somehow sanctioned by the United States government...i.e, the University of Maryland in Paris program, etc. In my experience, the schools only care about the stuff you send directly to AMCAS; I received a transcript exemption for my work abroad, since my home institution in the states also just gave me CR/NC. So, as long as you pass, I believe you will be okay at Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, etc.

Hmm. I was instructed to do the opposite by my premed advisor! My school, as well, looks at grades from abroad only as P/F, but I was told that I must enter the LETTER grades that I received on AMCAS. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever sent my transcript from the abroad program to AMCAS, but I definitely had to put in letter grades on the AMCAS application (and Columbia's secondary, for that matter).
