I found this study abroad opportunity for the summer (in the future) and it seemed like it would be useful to learn and understand medicine from another cultural perspective. But I know there's been a lot of talk on (and outside of) SDN about having experiences in this country (which I have plenty of) and not dabbling in "voodoo medicine" or whatever you want to call it.

What do you all think? Would this be helpful?

I would do it if it was heavily focused on oriental herbal medicine.

If you are really interested in it, go ahead. Know that some adcoms will probably see it as a very interesting EC, while others will hold your interest in "alternative" medicine against you. The net effect of this EC on your overall outcome is anyone's guess.

If you would find it interesting as a cultural experience then do it, but I wouldn't list it as exposure to a healthcare field or clinical experience or really as anything medically-related at all. I'm also not really sure how homeopathy counts as "traditional Indian medicine" considering it was started by a German guy only 200 years ago.

This.

Do it if you think you'd have a good time, but don't do it for med school. Only put it on your app for what it was and what you actually learned.
