Hi all!
I got an opportunity to do research abroad in Japan for 5 months. Would you guys say it is worth it? I would instead be working and exploring the states instead? Thank you!

That sounds awesome. Is it something you're interested in?

It is! However, I am still unsure if I should go. I know it doesn't matter for med school is that correct?
It’s an interesting experience but, it’s not gonna take the place of any of they typical checkbox ECs.

Research is always good to have, and doing research in another country will be a cool experience to talk about. If it’s not going to negatively affect your gpa or MCAT (which it sounds like it won’t), do it!

I had a shadowing experience aboard and interviewers always asked about it and how it compares to the experience I had in the US. So I say do it!!!! Besides research is always the same, I mean should be just based on the scientific method, but you just get to experience a different working culture as well as the overall Japanese culture in general.

If you get the chance to go abroad, do it. You will grow as a person and that is infinitely more important than any checkboxing activity you do stateside.
