Would it be possible to study for PTCE for 2 weeks and pass it?
I want to take the test during the break.. and I have about 2 weeks left..
I have Mosby's book, and by just skimming through the book, it seems like there are a lot of things to memorize..
Thank You

I studied for less than 2 weeks, and I did fine. However, I took it two years ago. I would learn the root words for the medications and their general function.

I studied for about 5 days total with Mosbys and passed easily. It's really not very hard of an exam - focus on understanding how to do the calculations, memorize all of the pharmacy abbreviations, read over the laws in a pharmacy and skim through a list of the most popular drugs and you shouldn't have any problems.

The PTCE is way over-estimated in terms of difficulty. It's easy. 5 days to 2 weeks would be more than sufficient. If you're capable of being a pharmacist, you're definitely capable of passing PTCE with 2 weeks of studying.

Agreed....I studied for this test for like 3 months when I could have studied for 2 weeks and been fine. The test is really easy...yet there are people that I have talked to that that have taken it 3 times before they passed....I don't get it 😕

I agree with what has been said above: if you are PharmD material, you must be able to pass the PTCE with 1-2 weeks of studying.

HOWEVER, as with pharmacy school, this statement mostly refers to your sense of what you need to focus on and what is useless information that you won't be tested on. It's not how MUCH you study but how SMART you study.

Be sure you know your math. Be comfortable with doing ratios, and working with percentages. It sounds like easy math, but if you're not prepared, it can be difficult (for example, if you have 30ml of 20% solution, how much minimum ml do you need of 70% solution to make a final solution of 45%?).

Be sure you know basic law. ie, what needs to be on an rx script and what is unnecessary, what the name of the DEA form is to transfer morphine to your store, how long a controlled rx is good for, etc.

Be sure you know basic drugs. No not all the brand and generics, but you should know the common endings (ie, -statin, -itidine, -lol, -mycin, etc) and what type of drug it is.

The test is a piece of cake if you correctly prepare for it! 🙂

I studied for less than an hour and a half and passed the exam. Got up at 6:30 am on the day off, opened a book - looked over important concepts - at 8:30 went and took the test. Just basic profficiency in calculations and minimal pharmacy-related knowledge (law and drugs) should be sufficient to pass the test with little-to-none studying. Two weeks is plenty - I wouldn't stress. 🙂
