studying abroad during application cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wouldn't recommend doing it.
School may let you reschedule an interview date due to circumstances, but I don't think they will wait until you come back from your trip and interview you then.

Everyone is different, and there's no saying right now just how many interviews you're going to get pre- or post-december, or if you're going to get accepted on Dec. 1, 2017. I would not recommend it seeing as it's always plausible that you get interviews post-December that you're going to need to go to (if you didn't get into a school or at least one you like on Dec. 1, 2017). It's not worth the risk!

That really depends how flexible your study abroad is and if it allows you to take time off to go to your interviews. If you know it won't, then I wouldn't do it. Keep in mind you may have to fly back multiple times for multiple interviews so cost is a factor too.
