Ok I have a stupid question, but I've been confused. When you enter college how exactly are you a "pre-med student" when you apply is there place to pick pre-med or what?? Sorry I'm so confused.

Depends, I think I checked a box during registration, but I doubt that's true for all colleges. You could ask your premed advisor if there's anything extra you need to do to be considered premed.

You check a box. Either way, it doesn't matter if you do it or not.

When I applied, every college I applied to had a place where I could show I want to do pre-med. May not be true for all of them, but I'd think the majority would have it.

Thank you for your replies, that's something i've always wondered.

No question is stupid, even Einstein asked questions!!!!

Just selected pre-med and that will get you goodies such as pre-med club and other pre-med related news. Doesn't really matter tho

Depends on the school. Some schools allow you to choose pre-medical (non-major) when you apply. All this does is put you in a group for pre-meds so that you work with the pre-med office during your summer orientation. They allow you to select your major after you have met with a pre-med advisor. Other schools just have a checkbox.

Yeah, the only reason to declare yourself pre-med is so that you are paired with an advisor to get you where you need to go.

It isn't necessary though. I completed a music degree before researching which classes I needed to complete before applying to med school. I was never assigned an advisor beyond the admissions department my second time around, but I had experience on how everything worked.

Basically, a pre-med advisor will help you choose a major (usually Biology) that will get you a bachelor's degree and ensure you take all the courses required by most med schools.
