So I get this patient in my ER last night. She was attacked by her boy friend, beaten and then set on fire. She was actually not hurt too bad (it's amazing how indestructible some of these folks are.) About 2 hours after she hits the door I'm standing in the break room and on the TV news the reporter is LIVE in front of the apartment building that the doofus torched while trying to kill my patient. I swear the reporter said that the suspect was wanted for "multiple violent felonies" and was still at large but that the victim (my patient) was at my ER and doing fine. She named the ER where the assault victim was being treated while the suspect is still at large. She might as well have said "Hey, Mr. Scumbag-suspect, if you want to finish the job head on down to ER X where your girlfriend is. Bring your own matches."
Anyway, I had a quick discussion with the hospital PR guy and he straightened the TV station out. Do these people think at all about the things they report?

NO!!!

We used to get calls all the time at the firehouse asking if the paramedics assigned to the S.W.A.T. team were "out". One guy even tried to pretend he was my brother to "check on my whereabouts". When one of the police officers had to leave a first aid class suddenly (wife in labor - we drove him from the training area to the hospital in an FD utility vehicle), we heard a report on the evening news that the "S.W.A.T. unit was very busy this afternoon in an 'emergency labor' action, no word yet on arrests..." We almost died laughing.

Ain't scanners fun 😀
Just remember - never screw up on a slow news day!
