How often do people submit additional documents on secondary portals (CVs, update/interest letters, abstracts, etc...)? Will I be at a disadvantage if I don't? Do med schools think I don't care about their school if I don't take the time to submit anything? It is still early in the cycle, so I'm just wondering if I should upload my CV and abstracts for my publications. Will they not know I have pubs if I don't submit the abstracts, even though I included publications in my work/experiences section? Thanks!

I only used the portal for updates throughout the cycle. It's likely you won't hear from most schools for months at a time so it's a nice way to update them on what you've been doing. I wouldn't add a CV unless required to since I'm sure your application covers it. Same for the abstract. More than likely not necessary to submit it (I didn't when I applied).

As the cycle progresses, it's important to show schools your continued interest. So yes, I'd plan to use the "additional documents" or their email to send updates.
