i don't think it really matters. you could probably use that if you wanted. i'm pretty sure it's just to match your face to a file at adcom meetings and such and to make sure you are the person interviewing.

Make it a nice pic. They come back to haunt you. That silly pic of you will wind up being printed out and sent to every head of every rotation you will be on, and in some places will even end up on your id card. Just be warned. 🙂

Wear a shirt and tie (with or without jacket, up to you).Take a profile picture with a dig cam. Go to CVS and print them out for $0.25/sheet. Each sheet has four 2inx3in photos*.

*Don't worry about the 2inx2in passport size requirement. It's not enforced.

From my experience, there is a 1-2 week waiting period with JC Penny. Whereas it only takes an hour to get it done at CVS.

That's true, but if you plan ahead, it's not a big deal. You'll end up with a more professional-looking photo, which I think is worth the $3.99 and the week-long wait. This is my secondary photo.

I would think most schools use the photo to help jog interviewers or adcoms memories when they are reviewing you post-interview. And for schools that ask for a digital photo rather than a hard copy, I wouldn't be surprised if it keeps popping up later as alternatesome1 posted. So definitely make it look professional.

Also, some schools that don't ask for a photo with the secondary snap one of you when you walk in on interview day, and I'm sure they use it for the same purposes.

what if the box to put the photo is 2 in by 3 in and you have a 2 x 2 photo.. is that ok?

hey, so did you just scan the picture onto your computer to get that attachment? cuz i was just wondering if jcpenny allowed u an attachment copy? (for schools that ask u to upload the photos onto their site). thanks!

What box? There's a box??😕

Just don't stray too far from the 2x2 requirement. I think 2x3 or whatever is common at CVS will do just fine.

Also keep in mind that JC Penny does not provide you with a digital proof (jpeg file of your picture), which you'll need for schools that ask you to upload your picture electronically...ie. Case Western.

Right - I scanned my picture.

I cropped a picture to 2" x 2" ... is this a good idea? or will it affect resolution?

I plan to have them print this out at walgreens

for the columbia secondary there is a box which is 2 by 3 and they say to paste the photo there.. but passport photos are 2 by 2.... 🙁

Just as a recommendation to anyone planning on scanning in his or her photo, the absolute lowest resolution used in printing professionally is 300dpi. Things will still look ok at 72dpi, but if you're planning on resizing (this applies mostly to enlarging), do that before dropping the resolution to avoid unattractive pixelation (which is to say your largest image is 300dpi, cropped to size, and then dropped to 72dpi for whatever reason--don't enlarge a 72dpi image).

If none of this makes sense and your picture looks fine, feel free to ignore me!👍👍

Oh yeah. I remember Columbia's photo box. Don't worry about it.

well, i wished i checked this thread before i did what i just did.. haha i measured the box and resized the photo to as close to those dimensions as possible 👍 but thank you!!

this is the picture i submitted with my MCW secondary.

i thought i'd go get passport photos taken before i submit any more secondaries, but could i just use this one? is it too casual? what does everyone think?

i think thats good.. a nice smile, nothing racy or anything 🙂

Its just a picture that the admissions office uses to keep track of you. It doesn't matter at all. Take a picture with your digital camera, or whatever, crop it, shrink it and you're good to go. Just do a head shot and you'll be fine, doesn't matter too much what you're wearing.

Just don't make is some thing where you are obviously drunk or doing some thing stupid. In one of my classes one of the members of a med school adcom showed off a bunch of the more hilarious photos. I don't think you want your photo to be in that slide show next year. He also spends about an hour talking about how your photo should be professional, etc..., so I know that at least one med schools cares.

professional as in taken by a professional? or that you should be dressed up? or just that it shouldn't be you being obviously stupid?😀

As in dressed as if you are a professional.

I used my digital SLR and had my roommate take photos of me. About 30 mins later I had a great photo that I only had to take to Walgreens to get done.
