Hello!

I am scheduled to take DAT at the end of July. I've been diligently studying for DAT, but I realized that I am not really confident to submit my application until I see my DAT scores. I am rising a senior so I thought I would take a gap year if I perform poorly on DAT or apply if my DAT score is good.

Would submitting my application at the end of July after DAT detrimental to my chances to dental school? I have 3.7 overall GPA and great extracurricular and volunteer activities with leadership positions.

I'd encourage you to go ahead and put your app in but no it won't be too late. You will probably miss those earliest interview dates though. Make sure you get your letters in order now in case you do decide to apply after seeing your scores.

Does missing earliest interview dates significantly decrease chance? 🙁

If anyone applied around August, please share your experiences!

My application was considered complete at the end of July and everything turned out just fine. I ended up with many interviews and acceptances from great schools. With that said, the earlier that you can submit your application the better...especially if your application is not extremely competitive.

Mid-July fine (I got several interviews) and mid Aug is okay. Sept is when it hurts Do not think anyone will be able to give you an absolute answer because it's admissions that know and there is also a bit of luck in play. One cycle I had my application turned in during Sept and I still had several interviews but I believed it hurt my chances. Best advice is DO IT ASAP. Just turn in your app and when your DAT score is in send it in accordingly. Even if you do poorly and you apply next year, I am pretty sure they can still obtain your scores. For the sake of some ease of mind you are shaving off a few percent of possibly getting an interview and being accepted. You're GPA is already stellar, it's unlikely you will bomb the DAT.

Your GPA is solid. So, as long as you do well on the DAT, you should be fine. I don't think think July is late. End of August would be considered really late.

I submitted late July/early August and got an interview 5 days later for an early Sept interview so you'll be fine! (For reference I got all pre-dec interviews)
