I have a timing question.

I am submitting my primary apps in the next three or four days, which puts my verification at mid-to-late August.

My MCAT is scheduled for August 9th. My results won't be released till early September, which means my application won't be looked at till then.

In terms of timing, am I behind the ball?

Absolutely, if you pre-write ALL your secondaries, your looking at Mid September -> late September complete dates.

That is absolutely late, but not impossible to get in. Good luck, PRE-WRITE your secondaries during your month waiting for your MCAT, otherwise, you have no chance. 😛

i think that response was kinda extreme. i think you'll be fine if you write your secondaries in august and get them in as soon as they ask for them. lots of people take their mcat in august

I agree. Try and submit your primary so that it is verified by the time you get your MCAT score. AMCAS seems to be moving kind of slow, so try to submit about 6 weeks before you will get your scores back if you can. I'm taking the July 25th MCAT, so I am right there with you. Just try and get as much stuff in during the month while you are waiting for scores, such as your letters of recommendation, secondary essays and etc.

Guys, His MCAT score doesn't come out until Mid September.. That is late... almost detrimentally so, but not impossible if he pre-writes secondaries

As a current reapplicant, I don't recommend it.

As a current reapplicant with a 3.8 and 35 who submitted in mid to late September last year, I don't recommend it.

Did you submit your primary in September or have all materials submitted by then?

Timing shouldn't be an issue if you have a strong application. Check out Ismet's MDApps profile - IIRC she had a similar timeline as you and got a healthy number of IIs (note that was from ~2 years though so take it with a grain of salt) EDIT: Here it is - http://www.mdapplicants.com/profile.php?id=22671

I do recommend prewriting secondaries so that you can submit them instantly. By the time you receive secondaries, all the prompts should be on SDN so you can prepare accordingly. Good luck on the MCAT!

Primary submitted early August, secondaries all pre-written and submitted as soon as I got them.

As the guy said above, good candidates or people who fill a needed diversity niche will rise to the top, no matter when they submit. But obviously my stats are above average and it didn;t help my case. I had 3 interviews but they all ended up in waitlists.

It's risky but you should be okay if you do pre-write all your secondaries and have them submitted pretty much immediately as soon as they are sent to you. If you have low stats or poor ECs, you might want to reconsider this, though.

I'm also a reapp, 3.74/34 secondaries complete late September-Mid October

PRE-write your secondaries

Not OP, but similar question. I didn't realize it would take a month to verify my primary, I'm looking at first-second week of August verification. If I have my secondaries pre-written and submit them August 14th-15th ish, is that too late to the party?

3.8/34 reapplicant checking in. 😛 I still think OP should apply but understand that there is a very real chance that you will end up like us.

I personally know a girl who got a 38 MCAT and submitted in Aug and got into Columbia. But then again, it's a 38 MCAT (13 on VR!!!) and a 3.7+ GPA....... Use this as a reference lol

Given the rate at which AMCAS is moving, your verification may be early September. You'll be complete at mid-September AT the earliest. Take it from someone who applied late last year...it puts you at such a disadvantage that it's not worth applying. The 3.8/35+ superstars are the rare exception and if you read their MDApps, you'll see how stressful the process ended up for the late applicants with even those numbers. Why rush? You'll do better next year with an MCAT score taken under less stress, a great app submitted on time and the edge that comes with applying early. I'm not saying this as a typical SDN-naysayer but as someone whose bad decisions really hurt her.

how does one pre-write secondaries? are they all online and are they the same for all people?
