Summer 2012 Internship. Is it too late to get one? Alternatives to Internship?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You are a freshmen. Short answer: no it won't look bad. Take this summer to shadow and volunteer while looking around for self-development. Internships or Research positions for your level won't really provide you any valuable experience. Most likely you will be killing lab rats or doing other scut work.

Most candidates have anywhere from 100 to 200 hours for volunteering for one location. Decide what's right for you.

Just volunteer this summer. There aren't too many programs that'll accept students finishing their classes in late June and who are also rising sophomores.
