It is summer...and I am looking for recommendations/endorsements for binge television watching.
I don't generally watch a lot of television- the last 10 years, I've watched Lost, 24, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Family Guy, and Community...and not much else.

Last summer, I watched The Sopranos (I was 15 years late to the party, but it was excellent).

What do you suggest, SDN? I'm considering Breaking Bad, The Wire, Orange is the New Black, and Band of Brothers, but I will consider anything that I can get via Amazon Prime or Netflix.

Thanks in advance!

Breaking Bad.

Just "discovered" it on Netflix a few months ago, just started the last season (intentionally slowed down so I could enjoy it longer).

Best television show ever, IMHO.

Marco Polo was good. The arrow was too until this season but it's still entertaining.

I heard daredevil is really good too but I haven't started it yet. It will probably be next for me.

Gurren Lagann - Anime

in Netflix... for pure awesomeness...

I'm planning to do Game of Thrones this summer, sounds like a great show that I haven't had time to watch in the past.

Breaking Bad, The Blacklist, House of Cards

The Wire is obviously the greatest TV show ever made, but its not for everyone. It will make you depressed because it does for early 21st century America what Crime and Punishment did for late 19th century Russia. It is a true intellectual undertaking.

Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones are great, violent mindless pulp that are fun to watch. Game of Thrones is great if you like plot twists. Breaking Bad is great if you like clever writing.

Any of the three are acceptable options, depends on your mood, what you like.

Try House of Cards if you haven't watched it yet. Definitely Game of Thrones.
I just started bingewatching Silicon Valley, it's a pretty good show so far.

Breaking Bad (Netflix), House of Cards (Netflix), Mad Men (Netflix), Silicon Valley (HBO).

-If you like serious comic-book-based show: Dare Devil--the best I've ever seen based off comic books. Having seen it, I looked at Arrows and The Flash and think "Was I kidding myself watching these?" LOL. You can also try Gotham.
-If you like legal drama: The GoodWife--very smart and well-written show. I have to admit that there were times I had to look up some of the vocabulary they used in the show.
-If you like well-written, perfectly-acted, story-with-a-twist drama: Bloodline (Be patient and get past the first four episodes!) and maybe Homeland
-If you like cute comedy for the family: Modern Family, 2 broke girls (this is for people having too much time to waste), The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (be aware of the language), The big bang theory, Parenthood
-If you like horror, and I mean the real kind: American Horror Stories, Darknet (this is the best: now I think twice before opening my gym locker!), The Strains (remind me what a "cloaca" is medically again? LOL)
-If you are open-minded: Looking, The Outs, The Fosters, Chuck
-If you belong to the typical-ADHD-American-viewer group: Bones, CSI (NOT CSI:Cyber!), Criminal Minds, Hawaii Five-o, Scandal, How to get away with murder
-If you like reality TV without the nonsense: American's got talents, MasterChef, Survivor, Shark Tank, Project Runway (a bit of frivolity doesn't hurt)
That's all I got for now, gotta get back to grandma receiving Rocephin IM and Zithromax PO 1 dose now (How on earth does she get it at her age???) LOL

I binge watched Breaking Bad twice, that's a great choice. Mad Men is good too, although the most recent season is still on network tv, so it won't hit Netflix for probably another year. First 6 +1/2 seasons are up though. Fringe was also a pretty fun one, although you'll have to turn your brain off and allow them some artistic leeway with the pseudo science.

I'm working my way through X Files now. I was too young to appreciate the show when it aired, so I'm glad I can see it all now.

X-Files freaking awesome! I was in Junior high school when I got hooked on it.

If you like shows with a lot of tension and suspense, I'd recommend both Breaking Bad, and The Americans. The latter just wrapped up its third season on FX, and is still going strong.

My vote is for Homeland. I also love Sons of Anarchy. Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Mad Men, House of Cards, Daredevil, Justified, 6 Feet Under, OZ, Dexter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Arrow, Tru Blood, Shameless, etc...

You should definitely watch Game of Thrones...but be aware that the book series is infinitely better than the show. Also, lots of gratuitous nudity and some themes that may make folks uncomfortable (incest, torture, rape) so if you have reservations about those things you may want to keep the ff button close by.

This **** cracks me up, BTW. Last week a character gets raped and everyone flips out about how violent the show is and how the are going too far this season. WTF are they talking about? They didn't even show the rape. They've been beheading people and a dude had his cock chopped off in previous seasons and a simple rape is what makes people flip out? Why is rape considered worse than being beheaded, flayed, castrated, or any of the other infinitely more gruesome things that have happened on the show? People are idiots.

The best part is that the same people who are up in arms about the rape scene from a few weeks ago are the ones who were laughing when that other character was gelded after being molested by a couple of ladies for hire.

Didn't think Looking would end up on anyone's recommendations. Great show, but of course not for everyone. Too bad they canceled it 🙁
I know, it's a great show with characters showing serious depths and the writing mirroring current social views on the subject. There is a petition online you can sign asking HBO to renew it. I think HBO plans on having a special feature soon to tie up all loose ends of the story.

The Shield, The Wire, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Community, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Southland, Eastbound and Down, Dexter, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Gotham, Homeland, Sons of Anarchy, House of Cards, Deadwood, Band of Brothers..

There are just way too many good TV shows. All of these are top notch.

House M.D., Breaking Bad, Archer

Also, for all of you who have also mentioned Breaking Bad, The prequel, Better Call Saul is available on UK Netflix. You can use Chrome with the Hola add-on to watch it.

Someone mentioned The Shield, so I automatically like this person. The Shield has made me laugh in ways no other show has. It could also be because I've talked with Goggins at the arclight and Johnson at Westfield. Human Target season 1 was pretty good too.

Lots of great replies already, especially Breaking Bad, The Wire and House of Cards. I also want to add Fringe and Dollhouse, if you are in a scifi mood and have already seen X files.

If you are in a sci-fi mood, go with Battlestar Galactica. Fringe and dollhouse are alright I guess but hardly the pick of the litter for that genre.

I must admit I have never seen BG (adding to list if JT is absent!) but Fringe and BG have similar ratings on IMDB. Dollhouse I will grant is slightly lower at a 7.8 but a) TOPHER (yes I am a girl and love nerds), b) JOSS (who can also do vampires and Shakespeare), c) Alpha and finally d) WHISKEY (who can make a girl forget a, b, and c stat.). <end rant>

I like binge watching tv shows, but may favorite part is being able to finish the series. Personally, anything that is ongoing would be off the table. Did this with game of thrones two years ago, now I have to wait for weekly episodes and then wait for 40 weeks between seasons. F that. Done the same thing with house of cards. Both are great shows, but so much better when you can watch beginning to end.

I've been contemplating true detective. Since each season is independent. My brother keeps telling me that Spartacus was really good.

Saw series, wolf creek, hostel, Miike films, wrong turn.
.................................J/K

Star Trek, Star Wars, The Office, Mentalist

Thanks to all for the suggestions!

Excellent point- I agree. That eliminates a bunch of suggestions, especially House of Cards, Sons of Anarchy, Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. Mad Men will have to wait until next year as well.

Have it down to four contenders: The Wire, The Shield, Breaking Bad, and Band of Brothers.

I've been watching Kimmy Schmidt over the last month, and just got to episode 11 last night. When I saw Tina Fey dressed up like Marcia Clark, I nearly died. [This will only be funny to the 35 and older crowd]

Psych was fun.

Out of those options go with Breaking bad.

I just found Breaking Bad about three weeks ago and I finished the series two nights ago...it was that good, especially for us pharmacists. But you have to get to the 3rd episode or so for it to start making sense and be entertained!

Just finished Bloodline. Very impressed. Not sure why it wasn't promoted as much as House of Cards, Orange is the new Black....

I'm about to end this thread right now.

1. True Detective (Season 1)
2. Game of Thrones
3. Breaking Bad
4. The Wire

These are the 4 best shows that television has had to offer.

Yeah, season 1 of true detective. Season 2 is garbage.

The Wire
Game of Thrones
Breaking Bad
Homeland
BANSHEE
SLEEPER CELL - season 1
House of Cards
ROME
Walking Dead
Sopranos
The Americans
Sons of Anarchy
The Shield
Shameless
MR. ROBOT

Best shows on television ever!! The ones in BOLD are the lesser known ones I believe...

Daredevil season 2 was good, and they referenced Jessica Jones, so now I'm in the middle of that. I'd recommend both if you like the darker toned regions of the Marvel universe.
