Hi all! Apologies if this has already been asked... Couldn't find it in the search option.

My prehealth mentor advised me to take 2 science summer classes for session 1 (to boost my gpa) before I submit my aacomas application. I want to optimize my chances by turning in the application early, so I'm estimating that the classes will end ~July 1st and I'll have grades by ~July 15. Is 2 weeks processing time an accurate estimate?

Long story short: How long do schools on average take to send in transcripts from summer school session 1 classes?

This is of relevant interest to me too, not that I need the boost but it would help definitely... except mine will be from another institution. Curious on how long it would take overall.

Can be quick, especially if you pay an extra 15$ for express shipping. Even regular post takes max 10 daysish.

The DO cylce is long, so as long as it is all complete and submitted before August, you are still very early. Most schools dont even begin interviews until september, even then you dont always want to interview in the first batch with all the strong candidates= schools can be picky then. Some school adcoms even told me to NOT interview in september if given the chance, and interview in oct/november, when they are "less competitive" and wanting to fill up some seats before dec 15.

So if a course or two courses are done by July 15-20.. it's possible to have them viewable by schools by first week of august?

So in that case, you submit in june to a random school you don't want to for the initial 5 weeks process.. then you submit to other schools by near end of July and the new grades (from another institution) will be ready right away?

Exactly.

Whut? I don't think this is 100% correct.

Are you talking about submitting the transcripts directly to the school or AACOMAS?

Once the classwork on AACOMAS is entered it is verified. After verification ANY changes require the classwork to be verified again.

I had to change the name of 1 class and it put the entire coursework up for verification. It will give you a notification when you try to make changes.

Trying to get coursework verified by sending it to 1 school doesn't make sense if you're going to update it with more coursework later on.

Just wait the extra 2 weeks to get all the scores in. Honestly anything before the end of August should be fine.

It works with the MCAT scores because you just forward scores from THx to AACOMAS.

If you already have a verified app (by submitting to one school), and you update the application with additional coursework, it is VERY quickly updated. Especially since the person indicated it is a different university, it wouldnt even affect the rest of the coursework.

this is of course talking about AACOMAS

You probably had someone more competent than I did.

I had to have mine edited 5 times because they fixed 1 issue but created another one. The upper level chemistry class was changed to the proper course name but with the wrong number now. So then the number was changed but then a random biology class was thrown into the wrong semester. Finally got that fixed and then the grade was changed. This took up an entire week.

I think schools can see revisions on applications. If your application won't change much between your first application and revised one then I guess go for it.

Honestly 2 weeks won't make or break you. Have it verified once so there are less issues deal with. That's just my opinion and I'm providing my experiences. Ultimately you have to juggle everything and decide what's best for you.

@Goro has said before to send in your best application possible. They look at your judgement.

That sounds like you had a terrible person... sorry to hear that! My classmate applied with what i'm descirbing and had no problems.

Yeah, you can always just submit it all when it is FULLY complete too and it wont make very big difference - unless you are an underdog (3.0 etc)

I was planning on submitting in early June... MCAT scores will be in July 21st and so will my 1-2 new course grades. Was hoping everything would be finalized and done by 1st week of august.

I had this experience with a class that ended even later. Submit early with your current transcript and then send your summer transcript.

I know westernU told me that they don't need my MCAT score to send me secondaries. Is it still best to wait on the summer course(s) or submit in June for them and update as I go along.

What was the total time till it was 100% good to go?

the first processing was about 2 months and then about 2 weeks for the new transcripts after rush delivery.

So, you'd just put down that you have a class or two in progress, and turn in transcripts up to the Spring semester (as early as possible after the application opens, to get in line for verifcation). Then, after submitting and applying to a random school, you send in an updated transcript to reflect the courses you had in progress...am I reading this right? Also, if you're going to be using those courses for grade replacement, will AACOMAS automatically do that for you when you send in those summer grades, as long as you indicate when you enter your coursework on the application that those in-progress summer courses are retakes? Sorry to thread-hijack, but this seems like a logical place to ask this question! 🙂

I've never thought about this! Is this true?? Should one not apply in the first batch if one's stats are avg.? And what schools don't start interviews until sept?

But 2 weeks for a transcript from another institution or the same one? Hoping for me since it's from another school, it won't take longer than 2 weeks.

If its a different institution, it will be quicker, since they won't even have to look at the other institution transcript for changes.

It was from the same institution I had been attending. The previous transcript said something like I was enrolled to take those classes.

That's the concerning thing for me. Is the initial verification time of 5-6 weeks going to apply again for the grades from another institution?

I don't know. My guess is no, but what I'd do at this point is contact AACOMAS directly.
