Hey, everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows how colleges feel about taking some of the pre-reqs over the summer. I want to get done as soon as possible. Thanks!
hmmm.. i've heard mixed reviews over summer school science pre-reqs. And of course, the disclaimer is to talk to the admission people from the school you want to apply to to get the "truth" about their feelings on it.
But to be honest, summer school is kinda like cram school, and you can't "learn" like that.. or atleast i can't. You just cram, take a test, and then forget everything once the class is over. Most of the summer school classes I've been in, had to cut some corners here and there to try to cram a regular full quarter or semester worth of material into a summer session. If you want to just get it over with, then that's fine, but if you want to actually learn, understand and "appreciate" the material, I think regular school session would be more conducive.
I took microbio over the summer, and compared my class with other friends that took it during fall/spring semester. The lecture material was really similar, but my labs were alot easier. I didn't have to do "formal" lab write ups like my other friends, and also had fewer lab experiments.
Also, I've been told that admission commitees like to look at your course load. If you can handle taking a couple of heavy duty science classes together. Cause anybody can take just one really hard class, and the rest are easy class and do well. But taking on classes like o.chem, physics, calculus, and genetics or whatever at the same time and doing well in all of them shows true skills.
Me, i'd recommend taking general education classes over the summer like statistic, history, speech, or whatever. Take your core science classes during the regular school year. You don't want to rush through those since they're gonna be your main foundation, and you don't want a wobbly foundation. ~shrug~
