is it true that some pharmacy schools don't allow any credits from summer school even though you took it at the school you attend? I just saw a comment by a poster on here that said that a particular school he was trying to get into wouldn't allow any of the summer course credits to be transferred.

if this is true, does anybody else on here have had a problem with this sort of situation? also, does anybody know how common this is?

I wrote the post previously about the summer courses. It's just for science or math. You can take english, etc. during the summer courses and they will transfer - just NOT science or math. The school that told me this is Texas Tech University (School of Pharmacy) in Amarillo. They told me this when they reviewed my current transcript to give me a list of classes that I will still be required to complete as part of my prerequisites. Personally, I don't know why it matters, but apparently it does to them! And I want to go there! I don't know if any other schools have the same requirements, as this is the only school I've contacted so far.

Hope that helps!

it does help.. thanks for bringing it up.. i just want to be ready next year when this happens.. the main thing i want to get from this is whether other people encountered similar problems and whether this is rampant or just in your school...

i hope to get some answers from the varied amount of sources we have on here

btw are you still planning on taking it in your school or considering other school options?

i think it varies with schools. But for the schools i applied to - they don't have that requirement, i took one physics course during one summer and general chemistry during the summer- but i took both of these courses at a highly competitive school- so that may have made a difference too.

TTU is acknowledging they have crap summer instruction and therefore thinks every other college does too.

In my book, not that it matters, if you can pass a 16 week OChem class in 10 weeks without skipping any material then more power to ya.

Here is what Texas Tech told me:

They will accept the Bio II and Gen. Chem II that I took in Summer '06 because I am currently taking Microbiology and Organic Chem, which build on those classes; therefore, if I do well in Micro and Organic, that means I learned my stuff in those summer classes.

However, they will not accept a science class taken the summer before enrollment in pharmacy school. That is, if I were to get into their pharmacy school for Fall '07 and then took a science class in summer '07, they would not accept that.

Hope this helps.
