Wondering what the popular opinion is on how to spend summers? Is there any real difference to adcoms between summer research programs vs. working with your long term PI for the summer Vs. doing clinical research with MD's through personal connections?

As long as you're doing something productive, I think that's all that really matters. Personally, I would go to other institutions just so you get a sense of the world and not just your own backyard. If working with your PI long term leads to a publication, it is probably better to stay though.

Either of those three options are fine. As long as you can write something and talk about something significant from the experience it is good

Actually none of them as as good as a summer of intense volunteering in either clinical or non clinical.

hey gonnif you still have that link to that adcomm survey that ranked AMCAS application components like MCAT, volunteering, research etc in order of what they think is most important?
