I recently asked a professor at another institution to see if I could do research with him. He said yes but he has to check if he has any projects going on. This was roughly a month ago, and I contacted him two weeks ago and he said he will get back to me in the next week or so. I still have not received a response. What is the best course of action? Are professors usually this busy or should I find another opportunity. I do not know if it is late or not to make summer research plans but I am interested in the research with this PI. I want to remain professional yet enthusiastic. I personally dont have prior research epxerience but I am willing to learn. Any advice of experience?

It's still winter. I would wait a few more weeks to see if he gets back to you.

Also keep doors open for other opportunities.
