Hey guys! I was wondering if you guys have an input regarding summer research programs for the upcoming summer. Most I've seen require a 3.0 minimum but I currently have a 2.8 (I know, its horrible) and I am a junior. Please let me know if you have any recommendations

I haven't heard of a undergraduate research fellowship program accepting students with a GPA below a 3.0. Have you tried contacting PI's at your home institution?

Use your summer more constructively and retake C level grades, or lower, and get that GPA up

I agree with spending your summer working on your GPA instead. Adcoms aren't even going to see that you did summer research if your GPA is so low that you get screened out.

To add on what I said earlier, get GPA above 3.o and then maybe look into building EC's such as research. Research is not much of a priority for DO schools though so other EC's may be more important to expand such as DO shadowing and volunteering/community service.

From experience, I applied with a 3.4 GPA as a rising junior and every program I contacted said they considered 3.6+ GPA competitive. Granted, I applied to highly desirable pre med research fellowships in the Northeast and should have applied more broadly.

Honestly I would work more on your GPA, and volunteer more, I got 5 acceptances, this cycle and never did any kind of research!

you're fine. you don't need to do research to get into a DO school with those stats.
The person you are quoting already had 5 acceptances and was stating that they did no research.

Research is not a requirement for most DO schools as there are no DO schools that are research intensive. Research intensive doesn't mean "we have research opps avilable" it's "we expect you to perform some sort of research and we are giving you protected time to do it within the curriculum" and not a single DO program has that type of curriculum (the only ones I'm aware that do something like this are the HYPS schools, Harvard Yale Penn (UPenn) and Stanford, I'm sure Pritzker, NW, Columbia, Cornell, and Vandy can be added to that list as well).
