hey all, so I'm thinking of doing a volunteer trip from mid June- August but am realizing that it would be during the time id be submitting the AMCAS.

1) if I had my PS and some secondaries written before I left, would it be advisable to submit in June?

2) I know this trip is going to be very meaningful. It isn't anything medical related however it would be nice to put it on my application. How would I got about doing that, if I decided to submit in June before I left?
- should I put it down as an EC that I am about to embark on?
- or would it be better to volunteer for a few weeks, write up a paragraph about it. And submit my AMCAS early July/late August.

I'm not sure what would be better in terms of submitting very early, opposed to having some experience to write about and include this amazing EC

Schools dont get to see your application until the end of june or early july so by that time you would have started the volunteering. Id do a write up in the activities section on it (probably not a "most meaningful" one) to explain what you are doing then using secondaries to expand on it.

If you waint until July or August to submit, you're probably going to have an extended amount of time before verification by AMCAS before schools see your application. Meaning you are going to be getting secondaries around the time when schools are giving out II's and such, which puts you pretty far back in the overall scheme of things

Apply early! The advantage of applying early >>> the brownie points scored by a single EC (which can be further elaborated upon on the secondaries and interviews if it is a significant part of your application).

Submit in June before you go. List your service trip as a future activity and write a description about what you'll be doing. It is much better to submit early in all cases.
