Hey guys:

I would love to apply to Downstate for early decision and would like some feedback as to whether to do it or not.
Cum GPA: 3.65
Science GPA: 3.6

MCAT will be in July.

I have been an NYS EMT for two years and have tremendous experience from that. I am doing a medical mission in India for two weeks to look into problems of healthcare within third world countries. I have done medical research in the ER at Albany Med for one semester, figure about 60 hours. I have done one semester of research, and might pick up a position for 3 more months in NYC, and I have been a part time SAT instructor with Princeton Review for two years now as well.

I am from Queens, and don't wanna leave the area, and Downstate is by far my number one choice. They have an incredible MD/MPH program that I would love to do. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

It will be very dependent on your MCAT score so I can't say now whether it's a good idea or not.

I don't know what the advantage would be of being EDP at Downstate--you can always keep your options open and apply to ALL schools in which you're interested. I would suggest just applying broadly and keeping your options open, UNLESS you are "SET" on Downstate and are willing to apply late/take a year off if you don't get into Downstate EDP.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

I don't think I a going to take my chances with it. However, I am contemplating taking a year off anyway, mainly to solidify my chances of getting into medical school by taking more time to ace the MCAT.

Yeah alot of it rests on your mcat, but if you do well (around the 30's) you'll probably have a pretty good chance at downstate's edp since your gpa is good and you're a NY resident

btw im from queens too 🙂 so :luck::luck::luck:
