Hi everyone, I applied to SUNY Downstate OT program in November and heard back today. I was invited to interview 2 days from now and was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice. This is my top school and my second time interviewing (ever) so any advice would be great.
I know there is an essay portion based on an article but what are the actual interview questions like? Jasmin Thomas will be interviewing me - I think.

Hi I also applied to Downstate in November and am waiting to hear back from them still and it's killing me! How did your interview go???

I applied early too and I have not heard anything yet. My application still says its forwards to the committee for review.

Hi, I go here. Last year they did interviews well into February so if you haven't heard back don't worry too much. The interview questions are dependent on who interviews you. Generally, they want to know your understanding of what OT is and what you saw during observation hours. They'll also ask about your experience, study habits, and maybe like an ethical / moral dilemma. These are just some examples, but it really depends on who is interviewing you. They may also take awhile to get back to you after interviews or not - it's variable. I got in 10 days after my interview (around this time last year), but don't use that as a comparison because I have classmates who were notified of acceptance in March - May.

Just had my interview! She told me they had about 50 the day before an won't know when they'll get back to me but the alumni who interviewed me was really nice and the written portion wasn't too bad! Fingers crossed!!!

So I had a pretty bad experience with my interview. The interviewer gave zero feedback during the interview, there were some issues with my written portion (not from my end), and I still haven't heard anything back. It was unlike any of my other interviews and so far I've had 4 and got admitted to one 3 hrs after being interviewed (haven't heard back from the rest). I didn't get many questions related to my volunteer experiences or any ethical questions. I don't remember it anymore as I left feeling it went terribly but overall just wanted to say it was brutal for me.

Sorry to hear the interview was so brutal 🙁 but at least you've heard back from other schools! Where did you get accepted? And what happened with your written portion if you don't mind me asking

I got accepted into NYIT. Interviewed at Downstate, Stony Brook, and Hofstra and interviewing at LIU this friday. They gave me three separate articles for my essay since they made a mistake with it.

Have you heard of any other acceptances? I've been creeping around different forums but couldn't find anything.

Hi, my daughter also received an acceptance offer. She interviewed on 12/21.

Yayyy congrats how was the interview
it was great! it was just me, i didn't see any other applicants. i liked how it was more of a conversation than interview

thank you! i haven't heard anything, i don't know anyone else who applied there!

Mine was with Richard. They sent me an email to check my portal for the decision!
Congratulations again! Just wondering do they have a deadline that you have to accept the acceptance or put a deposit down?

Is Jasmin Thomas an Alumni or faculty? Just wondering because and alumni interviewed me but I can't recall her name
She is a faculty member. And yes they give you a deadline that you must accept / decline the offer by with a deposit if you accept.

congratulations on the acceptance! does she plan on attending?
Probably not, we love the program and the people but she would have to dorm because it's not really possible to commute. She has 2 weeks to reply. We live on Long Island. She was also accepted to NYIT, Sacred Heart, and Stony Brook. All are good programs but she will likely attend Stony Brook largely in part due to cost, not sure if that should be the biggest factor in the decision process but hard to look past and it is a prestigious school. She has until tomorrow to reply to Sacred Heart and the 2 year length of the program was very appealing.

All those schools are great, congratulations to her on having so many to choose from!

Did anyone who was accepted contact admissions while waiting to hear back?

Has anyone who interviewed early January hear back yet?

Congratulations! I was interviewed the 21st and waiting to hear back, just wondering how long did they give you to accept?
I even didn't look and have accepted the offer right away. It is the only school I want to attend.

Well congratulations again! I hope I hear back soon its my top choice as well

Congrats! If you don't mind sharing, who interviewed you and what were your stats?
interview with Prof. Pagpatan, overall gpa is 3.76, pre-requisites - 4.0, around 300 hrs of volunteering in different OT settings.

Just got my acceptance letter on Feb 9th. I interviewed on Jan 20 and was asked to provide a timeline of what I did from the end of high school until now on Feb. 7th (Graduated H.S. in 2004). Can't wait!

Haha I graduated from HS in 2004 too! Ah, I haven't heard anything back from them since except for proof for registration for General Bio a couple months ago. Fingers crossed still! Thanks for the info @Drock25

Hmm, I interviewed on Jan 20th. Maybe they are just taking their time. I was on this site a lot looking at previous years and it seemed like people were getting accepted into march. Good luck! Also wanted to say that I went to LaGuardia for my associates in OT (COTA) just in case anyone is interested it is a fantastic program and really helped me stand out. I had well over 2000 hours of practice and made pretty good money as a COTA.

Just wondering do you have a bachelors? Or are you able to apply for the masters program because you're due to the COTA

Yeah, I have a Bachelors in Accounting, so the associates covered most of the pre reqs and I am taking Chem right now. You can do bridge programs at Mercy and York but if you already have a Bachelors this is the way to go!

Okay yeah I was just confused because at first I thought you said you only have your associates lol yeah I have my bachelors in child and family studies and I'm just finishing chem too! My back up if I don't get into school is to get my COTA, work and then go back

I would actually recommend that. I work in EI now and I love it! seems like it would be right up your alley with your bachelors degree. I know that time is always an issue but being in the field and having some experience has really made me excited to go back for the masters. Either way good luck!

Does Downstate notify you if you were rejected or do they just keep you hanging? I interviewed January 10th and haven't heard anything back yet.
