Hi everyone,

Just trying to get some info about SUNY DS Interviews. I was assigned a date for my interview, but will most likely be in NYC the week after my assigned date and wondered if anyone has been successful in rescheduling? Also, does anyone know what days of the week that DS interviews, I assume it is multiples times a week. Also, is there a student host program? Any other advice on the day?

I don't know whether they hold interviews on certain days only. I would check the dates in the interview invite thread and then compare them to a calendar to see on which days the interviews fell. As for rescheduling, I knew I couldn't make the initial date they gave me to I rescheduled it for a few days later. They seemed very accomodating, although I imagine if you had to move yours more than once there might be problems. If you need to move it I would do it ASAP to give them as much notice as possible.

As for the interview day itself, it was pretty relaxed. You have an interview with a faculty member, a student-led tour, and lunch with the tour guides. We also had a short overview meeting with the admissions director and one of the admissions officers. The Downstate medical complex is huge. There are several facilities all in a row...so if you want to walk through them you might want to leave a little bit of time for that.

Enjoy the interview. I got the impression that they really just want to get to know you. I was asked some specifics about my application (a couple clarification questions) and then from there it was just a back and forth conversation. I really enjoyed my visit.

edit: I am not sure about the hosting program. That would be something to ask about. The students I met were very nice and there was also on-campus housing, so it would be worth a shot.

I rescheduled no problem. There is no host program but you can stay in the on-campus dorm (I shared a room w/ a visiting student from India starting his 3rd year rotations at Downstate) if you email Ilana Levine.
