SUNY Downstate vs USC Greenville

SUNY Downstate
Pros

• I’m a NYC resident so instate tuition and close to friends/family (support system)
• Potentially more clinical exposure to a diverse patient population
• Match list is mostly in NY state and I would like to stay in this area

Cons

• Bigger school with less academic support
• Location in Brooklyn isn’t great
• Older facilities

USC Greenville
Pros

• Quality of life probably would be better in a suburban setting
• Lower cost of living
• Smaller class size, more academic support
• Lots of involvement with the local community

Cons

• Match is list is primarily in the south
• Large primary care focus
• Would be a lot further from friends and family

I currently live in NYC and would like to live in the northeast long term. I did go to California for college so am not opposed to moving and having new experiences. These schools are very different but I am soo grateful to have options. Any thoughts or insights on either of these schools would be greatly appreciated!!!

Didn’t suny downstate just announce they are closing down their hospital? That all being said if you want to stay in nyc and your support system is here, I’d stay here.
