I got the same letter too. Anyone knows if I still have any hope or its pretty much a rejection.

i just thought i was completely insane. your post seemed to jump into a new thread and refer to a different school right before my eyes!!!

Yeah but looking posts from previous years... it is almost a rejection. Just less heartbreaking one.

if i might ask, what are you stats? Upstate and stonybrook are my top schools due to instate tuition etc

edit: i thought maybe legacy (dad) would count for something. maybe not so much at the state schools (or they genuinely aren't too interested)
 
Did anyone know of a rejection from Upstate? Just to make sure one more time that "Hold" means hold and not a rejection spelled as "HoLD".
 
How long does it take people to get complete there? I filled out the secondary like a month+ ago and sent the signature page and payment 2.5 weeks ago (from the US, so mailing time should be short). Haven't heard anything yet.
 
Got mine today too... how disappointing...

I looked back in other threads and saw that a couple of people originally put on hold were offered interviews in December, so not all hope is lost. However, most of the people wrote that they later got rejections. Also, I found this (hopefully it will help clear things up):

I hope to explain our process a bit - our first screening of an application will result either in an interview, a reject or a hold (BTW - there is no Priority Hold). We try to have a 2 week turn-around time on your application. Sometime in December we go back through all of the "Hold" applications and re-review. We look at everything (yes, I would accept additional letters or updated information, if you feel it will help you, but don't get carried away with the letters! ;-) ) At this point, we either select for an interview or deny the application. Several students that were placed on Hold last year were, in fact, invited for an interview (I don't know the %).

If there is anything I forgot to clarify, please let me know...

Complete 7/19, received Hold letter today. That's quite a long time. Two week turnaround... hah.
 
On hold as well. Seems to be the answer I've getting a lot lately...sigh.

I have similar stats to yours and I got a hold letter also. 🙄
 
Wow,
in less than an hour I got so many fellow "HOLDERS". Thank you SDN for the support system. This makes it little less painfull. But it still hurts.

Does anyone know if Suny Upstate likes updates via email or snail mail? Do they even like hearing from us?
 
Well i've been through the interview process there and my page says decision made but I won't know the decision till Oct 15. 😱

Good luck! If you want some confidence, just remember - there's no reason they can't reject you right away. They have to wait until 10/15 if they're going to accept you. 😀

Yeah, I was feeling down when I came home and saw that thin envelope. But this thread has made me feel better, a little better.
 
i thought it was a rejection at first
 
count me in on the hold status...it's quite the club we've got going. Can I put that in an update letter? Shotgun, president!

Man, I was checking my status and it's all messed up. It says my signature page was received, but not the fee! How can that be possible? I sent them together! Do they just mean that they haven't cashed my money order yet?😕
 
Just got the HOLD letter as well. Somehow, I think that this is just going to lead to a rejection letter during spring time.
 
Yep, just got my hold letter yesterday. I was really confused at first because most schools call it a wait list. Way to be difficult upstate . . . oh well, like everyone else said, at least its not a rejection . . . yet, lol. Best of luck to everyone!!
 
Yep, put on Hold too....my mom had told me, and in anger and sadness used the letter as a coaster to hold my drink.

Oh well, here's hoping for the best

What is this.

I've been complete at Upstate for almost a month and I haven't heard jacks!t
 
It's 3 weeks.
 
I just got placed on hold as well...I am not to optimistic right now...
 
her mcat was a 31 (i dont know the breakdown), she went to ivy undergrad and her bpcm was approx 3.3 (she was a physical science major and was applying as a ny state resident b/c she was born and raised in ny)- she had both bench and clinical work exp and was a serious musician and on a team sport
 
Upstate apparently left a message on my answering machine. I hope the only reason they call is to invite you to an interview.
 
So basically hold = rejection?
Just that it is a nice way of rejecting and pretending that they might review you later on...?
 
Hold does not necessarily mean rejection.

For people who received holds, were you informed by phone or by lettermail?
 
snail mail. same as the conformation that your app is complete letter.
 
i logged into the status page and i realized the row that says "Status: Complete" has disappeared...... is this a bad sign? :scared:

Is the status page the same as the application summary page? I don't see anything that says status there... just a list of required stuff and when it was received.

Man, I didn't even think of checking until you mentioned it. My "complete" has also disappeared.

For people who have received interview invites, did this happen to you guys too before you got a phone call?

I recently received an invite from Upstate. Checking my status page, the "complete" is also missing from mine. So maybe that means you'll get an interview invite?

Watch out though..the guy who calls you sort of sounds like a robot .
