Hi All,

I've been a lurker for a while but now wish to get some advice on the following situation:

I am a non-trad who started taking pre-req courses this semester (Bio, Chem, and Physics) at two community colleges (Bio & Chem in one and Physics in another) because it was impossible to get a seat for all 3 classes in one institution. As you know, these courses are usually taken in a 2-course sequence. Would it be a big no-no if I switched college after this semester? I am seriously contemplating switching the bio to the other college (contingent on seat availability of course). The biggest problem I see is that the 2-course sequence is organized somewhat differently between the two schools and there may be overlap and potentially missed content by switching. And the second course is actually going to be the first course (consider the order of macro and micro switched) at the other college. I hope to compensate for this by doing some self-studying on my own. But how does an adcom look at this?

Doing some prereqs at one school and some at another isn't a big deal; however, doing half a sequence (e.g., Bio I) at one school and the other half (e.g., Bio II) somewhere else can be a problem as different schools divide their semesters differently. As a result, you may miss important topics and even if you don't, some who evaluate your transcript may wonder what you missed if they notice the situation. Not really worth the trouble if you ask me. Just finish the sequence at the same school and then transfer.
