Hello everyone,

I am currently in physical therapy school, almost done with my first year. I have been thinking for months now that I made the wrong choice, and that medicine would be a better fit for me. I am just looking for some advice at this point, to see if there is even a chance that I could get into medical school.

I got by bachelors in science at a 4 year university with a 3.61 GPA but I am not sure that I have met all of the prerequisites- I had a year of biology, general chemistry, physics, as well as other higher level science classes in the exercise science field.

In my graduate program now, I am getting straight As and will earn a Master's in anatomy and clinical health sciences by the end of my first year of by DPT program.

I am wondering if it would be better to continue and get my DPT and then apply to medical school then? Or is a Master's in anatomy something that will look good enough for medical school?

I also have not taken the MCAT yet, but am studying for it.

If anyone has any opinions or resources for my situation, that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Nope. It seems like you're on the right track. Some medical programs require for you to take a semester of Biochemistry. I would get in touch with several of them in order to see what their individual requirements are by calling the admissions office or by emailing the dean of admissions.

It looks like you're missing the OChem and may need to do a math class or two depending on what you've covered already. You'll also need BioChem knowledge for the MCAT as @Sardinia indicated in addition to whichever schools may require it. There is also a Psychology and Sociology component to the MCAT, so if you haven't taken those classes, getting that specific study guide might be particularly helpful.
It looks like your GPA is fine, so if you're truly serious about becoming a physician instead of a Physical Therapist, I'd suggest that the Masters in Anatomy is sufficient and you'll be fine applying with that as long as you have the shadowing time with physicians to complement it. I think it would raise more questions to the ADCOMs about your commitment to medical school if you have already achieved the DPT and then immediately changed your mind; they may think you could do the same with medicine. This is just my opinion and observation though as a lay-person with no knowledge of the ADCOM decision-making thought process.

The new MCAT is laden with biochem. So I would upgrade that suggestion of taking a class in biochem, to definitely taking a class.

You will thank me later.
