Which orbitals contain electrons in the ground state?
1,3-butadiene

any explanations are welcome

Why shouldnt all of the electrond be in the ground state. Therefore s,sp2,and sp3 orbitals all have ground state electrons.

It is orgo # 44 of destroyer if it helps

I am pretty sure that that question isnt in the destroyer unless you didnt post the exact question. Would you mind posting the question exactly as it appears in the destroyer.

Sorry for confusing.

here is the exact version.

(1,3- butadiene)

Which orbitals contain electrons in the ground state?
a)pi2
b)pi1
c)pi1 and pi2
d)pi1 , pi2 and pi3
e)pi1, pi2, pi3, and pi4

I do not really get this.........

is the answer choice C pi1 and pi2. I am not sure what is going on with ths question. I finished the destroyer 3 times before my DAT which was last week and i am pretty sure i never saw this question before. Hmm??

Its certainly NOT 44 destroyer. Maybe you mean a diferent resource. Ive been through it a few times and never saw that question. Secondly, number 44 is about an Sn1 reaction not orbitals

haha yea i just went to my destroyer book, 44 is not that question...we have a liar on out hands a liar i say!!!

omg,,, I have that question in my destroyer......... it is 2006 year version though.. I am not liar..

my 45 is "which halide reacts fastest in the SN1 reaction?"

I guess Orgoman decided to get rid of this problem in recent version.

Any idea?

Could be because evn though i dont have my destroyer in front of me i was pretty sure that it wasnt there. I remember the entire destroyer nearly by heart lol.

1,3- butadiene has sp2 orbitals in ground state. it's one sigma and two pi orbitals so the answer should be C. pi1 and pi2

if it's not C, then... hell i have no clue :[

i have 2006 october destroyer which i bought from friend.

and that question IS destroyer question number 44.

Huh? You mean 3 sigma bonds and 2 pi bonds?

That question doesn't make sense no matter how I look at it..

no i meant each carbon of 1,3- butadiene having sp2 hybrid orbital. but i'm not 100% sure
