For all those currently interviewing and getting acceptance (congrats!) I wanted to ask if you all could quickly take a look at my stats and give your opinion on how I stand

I have been out of school since Dec 2001 working full time as an engineer and ophthalmic technician ( few months as an engineer, then switch to technican)

Degree: Biomedical Engineering, University of Florida

GPA: 3.2 overall; 3.1-3.2 Science
Note: Had to work full time to pay for school - killed my study time and grades!!!

MCAT 27 (9,9,9)

Tons of volunteer work throughout college
Eng. Honor student 2/4 yrs of school with some other honors/awards
Have great LORs from faculty and DO (at least in my humble opinion)

I think my biggest problem is my GPA, but do you think the adcoms will take my work responsibility into consideration?

Any ideas of improving myself? ie post bac classes?

THANK YOU SO MUCH for you input.

looking into my crystal ball I see...

If you:

applied already your chances are good
plan to apply soon your chances are good but less than if you had already applied
plan to apply later your chances are not as good as they should have been
do not plan to apply then your chances are bad

thank you,
~Nate

NATE.. you took my crystal ball!

How dare you?

Since you have it can you tell me my future too.
Thanks

I applied with a 3.3/3.1 and no MCAT, but I have been getting some positive vibes. Granted, my ECs and LORs are probably what are carrying me through, but I say go for it.

I don't need a crystal ball to say if you don't apply you stand zero chance. 😀

docBill, the crystal ball shows you at UNE keeping warm snuggled up to one of those fine Maine ladies.

OP; stats are similar to mine and I have 4 acceptances, however, essays and letters had something to do with that also so make sure that you do your best in those areas, good luck.

thanks Nate, if that is the case.. I don't need my crystal ball back.

He said exactly what I would have said - if I only had a brain.

yeah- your real life experiences are good, MCAT above average, good reason for slightly lower GPA-LOR are good.

If you don't get in, its because you applied to late - try again next year if that happens. You have a good shot :luck:

Have you gotten any secondaries, or interview invites? Did you apply to a good number of schools?

PS-now I would say your chances are very good.

Your chances are very good. My MCAT is much lower and GPA is around the same... I'm getting lots of love. You're gonna get in somewhere as long as you don't screw up your interviews and don't have negative LORs. If you didn't apply everywhere, well pay the extra $ and apply everywhere ( minus places you would not live of course, but we do have to sacrifice if we really want this dream to come true).

What schools? Have you checked to be sure that your file is complete at each school? I have heard that one of the most limiting factors on applicants is an incomplete file =)

Poor stats, but might be able to slide at an osteo school, possibly but even that might be a little tough. Best option is to take Post-bacc for 2 years, hit up a good avg and you are all set. Best of luck.

I think that since you have 2 interviews your stats speak for themselves. Don't forget that some schools will interview until March and April. Just be patient, it's hard.

I think you probably got waitlisted at DMU due to last years overacceptance thing that happened and their scared it may happen this year. Everyone is waiting on NYCOM but you should get an email from them notifying they have received your application. PCOM is slow on applications this year. I didn't apply to Touro or NJ so I can't comment. I applied to CCOM but I haven't heard from them either. I did interview at AZCOM in late Sept., my first, and it was shakey. If you want to see my stats go to the "Official Applicant Progress" thread.

I also want to comment that I think that DO schools look highly on students who've had real life experiences, working fulltime, etc, such as yourself. It makes you a more well-rounded and knowledgable applicant and that's something that I think DO schools appreciate rather than how many premed clubs you've joined, etc. I say this b/c at the interviews I've had so far my interviewers have actually pointed this out to me.

I really, really think you'll get in. As long as you are not applying to DO schools as backup, or at least don't show that you are in interviews. You've been invited already as the above poster said and that speaks for itself. You'll be fine. 👍 👍

I say your Stats are good.By all means go for it
