Hey guys i'm new to this!!!

But need major help😕. I am a psych major at a college in Michigan. And have completed most of my prerequisites. All I have left is Orgo 2 lecture, Bio 2, and Math. I recently got married in August 07. So that semester I took off, and the following Fall 07 semester (I moved to where my husband lives) I also took off. I moved back to Michigan and continue to finish my BS in Psych.

My brother advised to just finish my psych classes and graduate. And the left over science classes I would take at a near by University where my husband lives, after I graduate...My question is, what would I be considered if I tried to do that? I heard I would be considered a post-bacholareate. If I am that, will I have to all my sciences classes over again???????:wow:

And how does this look if I just took the left over sciences at another University once I graduate, for dental school?!?!?! I really don't want to spend more time taking those classes here in Michigan. It really is hard for my marriage, being sooo distant. Please help!!

you can take any classes you want after you graduate. some schools won't accept community college credit, but as long as it's an accredited 4 year college, theres no problem. many people who get into d-school took all of their prereq classes after college, because they decided after college that they wanted to be dentists. just make sure that you do well in those classes, if you are only taking 1 or 2 a semester

you will be considered post bacc but you won't have to take your science courses again unless the new college doesn't accept your old grades. Call the university Registrar or get in contact with an undergraduate advisor in a science field and ask them. I would take your brothers advice.

I couldn't imagine it would look bad. People move all the time. Your move to be with your husband and finish your degree elsewhere. Why would a dental school look down on you moving to be with your husband and finishing prereqs for dental school after you move? Maybe you took the year off becuase you were preparing to move or looking for jobs or your husband is in the military and you have kids and couldn't swing working full time and taking care of kids due to cost. I would listen to your brother and get your degree then take the pre reqs at the local university. Contact an advisor at that college and ask them since they will be able to help you more than people on this forum. They work at the university, we don't.

when i was trying to transfer (since I moved after being married), I had an idea of what classes would be transferred and which of them didn't. They had told me that my Orgo 2 lab which I completed, would not be transferred. So, I am very concerned. I do not want to retake that lab again!

I am not sure if I would still have to retake the lab again, because this time I would not be considered a tranfser student rather, like u guys said a Post-Bachelorate??

Most dental schools, if not all, allow applicants to complete some of their required courses at a community college. Many schools have a limit to the maximum number of credits you can take from 2-year colleges, so you will have to do a little research.

If you are taking these classes from a 4-year college, you don't have to worry at all. 🙂😀😎

Sorry I wasn't clear, Yes I will be taking those three science classes at a 4-year University once I graduate!

So u guys are saying that I would only to make up those 3 classes as a Post-Bacc and not all the other science classes I've taken previously, correct??😕

Yes! You can just enroll as a post-bac, non-degree seeking student. 😀😎🙂

I know that in some schools post-bacc and non-degree are 2 different things...schools such as george mason, and other such schools..

Every university in my area (and it's a big area ) allows anyone to take classes as a non-student at that school. It's not cheap and you don't get high priority when registering, but I've taken several through these programs. If you only need a few classes, instead of worrying about transfering credit for a post-bac program, just enroll in those specific classes as a non-student. The classes are the exact same, you sit with all the registered students, it's real credit and you receive a letter grade. Look on your school website for something called University Extension or maybe Open University. The cost here is about $250 per unit. Expensive, but worth it if you need it.
Also, depending on your GPA you might be able to knock out the math classes at a CC for much cheaper. If you've taken all your other prereqs at a univ and you have a decent GPA, taking your math at a CC isn't going to change anything for your acceptance odds. Nearly all schools are willing to accept some CC credits if you also have taken university classes and have decent grades from there. Tufts is the only one I know of that says absolutley no prereqs at a CC. I took all of my math, in addition to Gchem and a lot of bio, at a CC. Take the Ochem and whatever bio you have left at the univ though.

THANK You soooo Much!! 🙂🙂You guys have been sooo helpful. So most likely I'm planning on just doing the non-student, after I graduate. One last question...the thing is I already took Orgo 2 lab at the university I'm currently at in Michigan, just didn't take the Orgo 2 lecture part...i know, odd, but they let me do that.

But after I got married when I moved with my husband, I thought I would end up transfering and going to schools there, they said that my Orgo 2 lab wouldn't transfer b/c it wasn't taken with the Orgo 2 lecture. However, now that all I want to do is just the lecture as a non-student, would i still need to retake the lab again for dental schools, or even for registering the lecture part of Orgo 2???😕

I don't think you should have to retake the lab for dental schools or to get into the lecture. If your transcripts show Ochem I & II lab, then you are covered there as far as a dental school would care. To get into the lecture at another university, usually you have to get the instructor to sign your registration sheet. He/she might ask if you've had the necessary preperation to take that class, so bring a copy of your transcript to show them you've had Ochem I lecture already.
