Hey everyone, so I recently changed my major (if you didn't see my nursing major thread), and am stuck with a decision to make. I am currently in Anatomy and Physiology II (summer session) as it was a pre-req for nursing. Should I take it or drop it? I assume I should be able to use it toward my sGPA, which is pretty low at the moment on account of I haven't taken many science classes yet. Any opinions?

Do you have any other plans for the summer? If not I would stick with it. And especially keep it instead of getting a W if you would. Physiology was the best science elective I've ever taken, and is definitely good to have taken before the MCAT. I think anatomy is relatively useless in undergrad though, but as TexasPhysician said if you can get an A in it you might as well boost your sGPA.

If you think it is a class you will enjoy and do well in, then you might as well stay.

You said you do not like her grading system - did you take A&P I with the same professor? What was your grade in that class?

Just get an A and move on. You're going to be a doctor, you might as well do well on this stuff now, because you'll definitely see it again in much more depth in medical school.

edit: Also, it's not like you've got any other classes tying you up right now.

You should not take this class in the summer.

If you have not taken many science classes before A&P is going to be difficult - but doable in a normal 10 week term.

I was in the same position a few years ago and I ended up with a B and B- in the 10 credit summer school session. I understand you are already enrolled, but you need every chance you can give yourself in the medical applications game.

A&P just isn't in the cards for you right now.
Sit this one out.

A+P is not required by med schools, but it does come up a lot as a recommended course, and it will help you on the MCAT since basic bio does not cover the human body as extensively as A+P does.

I would not recommend taking A+P over the summer unless you are not working at all, and are willing to spend every waking moment studying. There is a lot of material to cover, and I don't think most people can handle that course over a summer session.

Can you take an easier class over the summer and then finish A+P in the fall?

I would in no way recommend taking a gross class as "helpful" for the MCAT. Sure, it's helpful, but only the physiology portions. A physio-only class would be higher yield.

This 👍

You don't need all that anatomy garbage...yet.
