For some reason, my advisor thinks I should take pre-calculus during next semester. However, I will also be taking Organic Chem. 2, as well as Biology 2, and math classes are one of my biggest weaknesses, academically speaking.

Would it be okay to just hold-off on taking pre-cal. until my senior year?

Do whatever you want. I don't think most d schools require pre cal anyways. Do they? IDK I guess I took calculus my freshman year, so it was never a problem. Anyways, it probably won't hurt to take it next year, unless you're applying to one of those schools who require all of your pre reqs to be done before you apply. Never listen to your advisor. They rarely know what they are talking about.

Ditto on all accounts. Check around on a couple schools websites for pre-reqs. Unless you need it for a pre-req, GenEd, or general interest I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for all the input; everyone's advice echoes my own sentiments: take it during my senior year!

Now, how about some suggestions on what to take instead? These are the classes that next semester's schedule is currently going to comprise of:

O. Chem. II (w/ lab)
English II
Spanish
Research Methods in Biology
The spot formerly held by Pre-Calculus

Pre-Cal. is the last math class I have to take, anyways, so I don't see the point in rushing into it.

So, what other class do you guys recommend taking in place of Pre-Cal.? I would rather take a somewhat "harder" class than another fluff course like Spanish II or English, because next year, I will have to take Genetics, Cell Biology, etc., and so I'd like to save some of the easier courses for when I take the harder Bio courses.

I'd go with genetics. I took genetics and Ochem at the same time and I thought it was okay. I just wouldn't want cell and genetics in the same semester.

Well, the way my school does upper-level science courses is like this...

Genetics, Cell Biology, Ecology, and Biosystematics are "reserved" for junior class-standing folks. You essentially "have" to take those classes when you become a junior, and the worst part is, you have to take Genetics and Cell Biology in the same semester because they're both only offered during Fall semesters (in the Spring, they offer the Ecology and Biosys. courses).

But next Spring (2008), I'm still going to be a sophomore, and the classes listed in my previous post are the ones I'm taking. So, I'll have no choice but to take Cell Biology and Genetics together. My school WANTS Bio. majors to have "difficult" courseloads. I'll be done with Orgo by May of 2008, though, so having to take Orgo. with any other hard courses is a non-issue.

I just suck at math and would rather not take any math classes next semester...
