hey all,

just wondering what you guys think.. thinking about dropping physics 1 and taking the W. Not doing so hot in it and really don't want to risk my gpa..it's pretty high as of now but i don't want to kill it with a sub par grade in this course.. I plan on taking it next semester if in fact i withdraw... What do you guys think? would this be frowned up? espec as a prereq...i plan on applying next cycle btw.

thanks

From what I've heard, if you can get at least a C, then don't take a W since it looks bad...especially as a prereq.

If this is going to upset your schedule at all, and you can manage at least a B currently, don't drop it. If you're at a low C, risking a D, I'd say drop it, a small number of W's doesn't really mean anything (say under 4). If you're at a high C, I'd suggest sticking with it and shooting for the B.

Bottom line, 1 or 2 W's aren't going to kill your application. Where are you currently with physics as far as grades go?

You gotta remember, physics is one of these classes that SOMETIMES gets heavily curved at the end of the term (even if the professor doesn't tell you he will curve, they usually do to save their job).... our physics class was always averaging 30-40s in the exams lol.... but when our final grade came out, I ended up with a B- (I was always getting about 60s in my test, which is really a D but... he curved the heck out of it and didn't even tell us he curves early on the semester)

don't drop it. i've heard schools sometimes see W's as F's. i can't remember where i read this but i know one of the dschool websites said they don't accept anyone with a W in a pre-req. like others have said, if you can get a C or better, stick with it. you still have some time left in the semester to work hard and bring up your grade.

I am planning on dropping my ORGO 2 class b/c i dont have a chance to get an A or even a B (unless i get 100s on next 3 exams - yeah right🙄)

but after i drop, i am planning on taking orgo 2 again next semester and i dont have any W's so far

can someone help?

I don't think this is correct at all... maybe out of the 59 USA schools 1 or 2 of them do this, but MOST of them see a W as what it is... a W

I've never heard of any school counting a W as an F - people need to get over the whole W issue, as long as you only have a small number, they really don't matter.

I like to think of Ws as parking tickets... if you have one, it's not that great, but if you have 20..? Really, W's are not that big a deal UNLESS you have a bunch of them. I mean, you shouldn't be aiming for them, but occasionally we make mistakes. If you're going to take that W though, make it count: that is, make sure that you can prove that you've learned from the mistake (ie, get an A the next time around).

Physics is a rough class... lecture, lab (with 10pg formal write ups/wk), extensive HW, reseach papers... I swear it's undercredited. On top of that the class averages @ my school are 45-55%. To me there is a better way to teach this subject than bombing the students and curving them at the end of the term....

I hope your class gets curved too.
