Taking a leave of Absense

Hello,

I needed to ask a question for a friend who is currently in medical school but does not have an SDN account. He wanted me to ask how it looks to take a month long leave of absence during the third year of medical school. Will taking a month long leave of absence effect him when it comes to applying for residency.

He should talk to his school about it, but almost assuredly the answer is no, it will not affect him significantly. Many students need to delay 3rd year for a month or so for step 1, and lots of schools have some kind of elective time in 3rd year that can easily be made up in 4th year.

I'd imagine they'll ask about it, so hopefully it's a legitimate reason. He might start a year late.
