Hi everyone!
So I'm leaving undergrad a year early and UMB's prereqs do not require biochem, so I have no BCHM experience whatsoever. Based on what I've read on SDN and heard from friends, it's better to have taken it even though I'll basically be taking it again once pharm school starts.

My plans for summer was basically to travel around, but I do have a little bit of time where I won't be doing anything or going out of the country. At this point, I'm wondering whether I should invest time/money into taking a session I BCHM course at my undergrad, or take some random BCHEM course online (any suggestions? can't seem to find that many legit ones) or... just don't do anything at all (or just do some self-teaching if that's even possible)? Any advice would be awesome, thanks guys!

that's weird. i just got information about applying to maryland and in the brochure it said that biochemistry was a required class.
i know that biochemistry is not offered in the summer at my university, but my adviser did recommend taking it before heading off to pharmacy school.

As a biochemistry major, I would suggest (since you're taking the class to help yourself prepare, and not really for credit) self-study. It would be cheaper and I think it is sufficient if you're disciplined enough. Might want to email a biochemistry professor and ask them what the best book(s) would be. Maybe even ask for a syllabus for their class (to know what exactly to read in the book)...even if you don't plan on taking the class itself. My biochem classes require Lehninger's Principles of Biochemistry (12th edition), and it's a fantastic textbook.

You should relax this summer. Unless your school requires biochemistry, dont waste your time taking it. You would be just fine. Go have a break cuz pharm school's gonna be tough

Unless you have trouble learning new information, or some kind of minor learning disability, I wouldn't worry about it. They won't assume you know any of that. You just will be learning for the first time what will be review for many of your classmates. You're not going to have much free time after this summer. Do you really want to spend it pre-learning something they will teach you again a few months later? Take the summer off. Get some sun. Go to the beach or the pool (which you have), see some baseball games maybe. Relax. It's your last chance to do so for the next four years.
