Hey,
I did a search but didn't come up with much. I really want to take reproductive physiology in the spring, but due to a pretty full load, I think I would throw myself off a bridge having to worry about a letter grade in the class. I was wondering how med schools look at classes taken for audit. I would assume that they would look at them neutrally, if not at all, but I just wanted to make sure. Also, from those of you who have done this-- Do they appear on your transcript as "Audits"?

TY in advance!

If you know the professor just go talk to them and ask if you can sit in. Don't ever put it on your transcript, no point in worrying about it. Most professors at my school would love to hear a student is excited enough about their class to show up for it without getting a grade. This may not be the case at all schools so I don't know. Definitely worth asking though.

Yes, they appear on AMCAS as "Audit" courses. I audited a Spanish class, and this is how it appeared on mine.

As for how adcoms look at audits, I haven't had a single person comment on my audited course in any interview so far (I've had 4). It seems like this is fine as long as you don't audit too much...

I don't think it hurts you, but if the professor is willing to let you just sit in the class as mentioned above, it might be a better option.

Just so you're making an informed decision, you should check if your school shows course audits on your transcript. I know, for example, that mine doesn't.

Audit. Doesn't it factor into your GPA though?

How could an audit factor into your GPA... you're not getting a grade...

Your transcript could show that you audited XYZ course, though. Or, even if you did audit a class, there may be no indication of that on your transcript. Depends on the school.

What does Audit even mean.. withdraw?

It means that you sit in the class and do all the work, but you don't get grades or credit for the work you do. I ended up auditing my calc class before I took it for a grade because I hadn't had math in so long and the teacher was horrible.

Ohhh okay. Do you take the tests too?
