Most people have suggested that I apply June 1st and send in my DAT scores later (Taking DAT July 1st). However, if I do well on the DAT AA 20+...I plan to apply to IVs, UCLA, and my state school (b/c my GPA is 3.9+ and I have pretty good ec's).

So...If I get below a 20AA...I will probably apply to schools like Nova, NYU, etc. My list will change almost completely.

Should I wait until July 1st to apply?

July 1st is fine. If you do well on your dat it shouldn't matter anyways.

But July 1st, is still considered early.

The early apply the better! I would not wait on your scores - where they are good or bad! The sooner they have your app the more likely you'll get an interview earlier in the cycle. Plus - it takes about 3 weeks for your schools to be sent to the schools - so if you take the test on July 1st, you will know the scores immediately, but schools won't get them until August. Then you are even later in the cycle.

And I would just apply to all the schools you are considering....why would you sell yourself short based on the DAT you haven't taken yet. Even if your scores aren't super high, that doesn't mean your top schools will reject you.

Plus - you can always decide to send your scores and you AADSAS application to more schools later in the cycle. It doesn't all have to go at once.

Thank you guys. Okay if I do apply to an extra 2 or so schools..how much extra will that cost? $50 for DAT scores and how much extra from AADSAS?

Thank you

Off the top of my head I think the starting scale for AADSAS was $65 last year, and then depending on if you had more, I think it went down slightly every 5 schools or so. Also, remember that most schools require secondary payments, anywhere from an additional 40-100 bucks that you've just got to send straight to the school.

So for two additional schools:

25+25 (DAT Scores)
65+65 (AADSAS additional fees)
75+75 (secondaries?)

Total: 300+ ish?

Ugh...I don't want to spend anymore money. I hate being poor. lol

I just need to narrow my choices...

I'm FL resident thinking about..

UF
NOVA
UPenn (My mom wants me to go here)
Louisville *they seem to be cheaper and have a good amount of seats for out of state students

I don't have a lot of cash for interviews, apps, etc. I just want to apply to a few schools that I want to go to. If I get a high DAT score..I would add Harvard.

Haha, I know what you mean, I was also in a similar boat in that I wasn't sure which schools to apply to and wanted to wait for my DAT scores... and that didn't turn out as the best way to go for me since I ended up delaying my DAT a whole bunch. And yeah, the costs for me were a big blow too, I applied to 23 schools! 😱

$300 isn't much if you consider having to wait another year to apply to school if you don't get in this much. Not to mention, the hundereds of thousands it will cost to attend dental school.

Oh I know you're right. but still..lol.

I did exactly what you're doing but even later by almost 2 months. I sent my app in a few weeks before my DAT, and my best advice is DEFINITELY add top schools. You'll regret is terribly if you score surprisingly well on your DAT and potentially sacrifice your chance by applying to them late. I realize money is an issue but if you're applying before getting your DAT scores, you're gonna need to apply to more schools than other people if you don't wanna sacrifice your chances of acceptance.
