How difficult does that sound?
Summer program at my university starts friday and is about 7.5 or 8 weeks long. I'd be taking BOTH genetics and biochem in that time frame. I really HAVE to get nothing but As from here on out, too.

My schedule really makes me nervous.. 3 days a week I have class until 6:15pm.

I keep going back and forth on whether I should just do biochem or both. I need more science classes for GPA though. Seems like a waste to be here all summer and take just 1 class.

As far as getting As, I'm definitely no supergenius, but I'm willing to try my best and study hard.

Thoughts? Reasonably doable?

If it were me, to be honest, I would probably only do one or the other. No sense in rushing and causing your GPA to flop. Plus, you want to make sure that you have a good handle on all the material.

Agree with Pressp. No sense in risking, unless you have time to truly commit. One science is hard enough over the summer.

which is typically harder then? biochem or genetics?

I guess I'd prefer to take the harder one over the summer for the sake of getting it over with without other classes getting in the way.

I know it differs from school to school, but typically, which is more difficult?

I think it depends on your strengths but for most people, I would say biochem would be harder.

Don't do both. Ask students who have taken the classes during the year and during the summer, and see which one you would have an advantage in taking over the summer

take genetics over the summer. If you take biochem, you're at risk of burning out by the time you start your fall semester.

I think biochem would be harder, when I took it it was A LOT of memorization (memorizing the structures of all the amino acids etc). Genetics was easier but a lot more reading.

How long is your drop window before you'd get a W? Maybe you could sign up for both and drop one if it seems like too much work.

This schedule sounds like a suicide mission, and if you are saying that you need A's from here on out, I don't think I would risk it.

Genetics is probably OK over the summer, Biochem is something that should be taken alone as a summer course.

its like half a week haha, classes start friday and I have until next wednesday or so. need to decide now.

guessing for now i'll go with biochem, but that means i won't be able to take genetics this year, since i'll be taking ochem, physics, AND bio both semesters this year.

It's doable to take both, but don't count on free time/EC time. If you're not planning to only take those courses, go for biochem. It's a lot of memorization and was a pain to take with my other courses. I liked having it in 4 weeks during medical school--easier to get into the material when that's all you have to think about during that period of time.

If the alternative is to take it during the year, then just take it during the year...

Do genetics. Biochem is not something you want to cram into 8 weeks anyway; it potentially has larger implications on your future.

talked to a bio advisor today and she said if i'm just doing one, take biochem -- its a prereq for a LOT more classes than genetics.

on that note, anybody think it'd be doable if i did biochem and statistics? i don't feel like stats will be that bad... not as hard as genetics anyway.

biochem and stats or just biochem?
