Hi everyone, I tried to look in the archives but I'm not finding anything related to my specific experience. I'm taking the GRE next week (August 2016) but I won't be applying to PT schools until next summer's application opens up.

How should I go about sendings scores if I'm not applying until next July? This is my first GRE attempt and I'll likely be re-taking in January or early next summer, before the next cycle opens up. If I send scores now (the four free scores), will schools still have them on file next summer?

Basically I want to make sure that I a) get to see my score at the end of the test, b) know whether or not a program will have my GRE scores next year if I send them now. I don't want to miss out on sending 4 free scores if the programs will hold onto them.

If I can clarify, let me know.

BUMP for answers since I'm in the same situation

The scores are good for 5 years, I think. You can send those scores next year when you apply. I am not sure about the situation with sending the scores for free, though. Have you contacted ETS and the schools you plan to apply to?

I have just done the same thing you are planning on doing. Your scores are valid for 5 years and you can send them to whichever institution you want via scoreselect, but there is a fee associated with each school you send scores to.

I would contact PTCAS and ask them. If you're applying through PTCAS and using PTCAS GRE codes (which is what you would do for most programs that use PTCAS), then ETS will send the scores to PTCAS once your test is scored (a couple of weeks after you take it), and once you submit your application, PTCAS submits the scores to the schools. PTCAS doesn't save applications from year to year, so it's hard to say whether they would hold onto your GRE scores for almost a year.

I know PTCAS has a record of the schools I've sent to in the past, but whether or not a school holds onto them if you don't plan on applying this year, I'm not sure. I wouldn't imagine they'd toss them, but I'd double check with the schools. You will be able to see your Q and V scores on the GRE once you're finished, but you won't see your writing score until you get a hard copy, which could take a few weeks.

BUMP
I dont think anybody here answered whether or not you could summit GRE scores to (4) schools for free BEFORE the application. Taking my GRE this week and I want to send it the schools (some are not participating in PTCAS) for free before applying. Let me know please!

Yes, you can enter the school codes. Just make sure its the right one because some schools have department codes and some don't and if you send it to the wrong one you'll have to pay for it later. I took the GRE in February and applied in July.
