I've always wanted to pick up a third language. I know English (duh) and decent Spanish which I am trying to improve, but I've always thought it would be cool to learn German to travel that region, or Chinese because it's going to be damn useful in the future.

I'm planning on learning mostly online but am also considering taking a CC course, seeing as I am taking a gap year and have some time on my hands outside of work, research etc.

My question is, do I need to "update" adcoms about this and possibly send transcripts? I doubt two foreign language classes would significantly change my application, and I am really just doing it for fun, not "for med school." If an adcom would get upset over not getting told about new CC classes then I'll probably just study online or bother my foreign friends rather than jumping through hoops of sending transcripts.

Bump. I'd also like to know the answer to this. Would it raise eyebrows going back to CC after graduating? I'd like to brush up on my espanol.

You don't need to inform anyone of this, but it would pique my interest if I saw it on an application. Provided you're an adequate candidate, studying another language can only reflect well on you provided you perform well in the course. The fact that you decided to take this course at a community college wouldn't be something I would care about in the slightest.

Disagree w the above poster. You have to send in all transcripts for course work.

OP has not started taking the course yet. Therefore, no transcripts are necessary.

When is a transcript NOT required?
Current or upcoming coursework, if you have never previously enrolled at the college (if you select this option, AMCAS will not need a copy of the transcript when it becomes available. AMCAS will not update grades and/or courses that become available after you submit your application).
