hello,
i am taking a few undergraduate classes as a graduate student. (re-taking organic chemistry at a 4 year college for example since some schools don't accept credits from 2 year college) i was wondering if those undergraduate classes would be counted for grad GPA or undergrad GPA even if my status at the school is currently graduate. it's a little weird because AASDAS and my school's grading policies are not always equivalent, thanks

Grad.

Are the courses being taken at the same university as your grad?

hi sumin, yep. the school calls me a graduate student; their policy is any classes taken AFTER completion of 1st bachelor's degree will be deferred to as graduate grading/status (doesn't matter if classes itself is part of the undergrad department). in essence, they omit D's as possibility and grade by A/B/C/F. it's not too much of a big deal for me, but undergraduate classes like organic chem for pre-health majors (and genetics/human genomes, a 200 level course) getting evaluated as grad GPA on ADEA AASDAS would be kind of strange.

DS can reshuffle courses around at will.

Well, if you're classified as a "graduate" student, then those classes would be filed under graduate grades. I would imagine a transcript from your school would report it as a graduate course or claim you are a graduate student.

Hmm normally you would be considered a "non-degree seeking student" if you've already received a bachelors and are just taking some extra classes. Don't see how it would be considered grad classes considering there's no grad degree you are in the process of earning, correct?

Courses taken after a bachelor degree as a non degree seeking or as a degree seeking student are lumped as grad (postbacc) courses. For AADSAS purposes, it is the timing of the courses that determines how they are classified rather than their academic level. Academically, the former is not a graduate student, while the later is.

In your situation, these classes would be averaged into your post-bac GPA, which I believe is lumped with your undergraduate GPA. (That is how it works with AMCAS, which is probably similar to AASDAS. If you are taking these classes for a formal Masters program, then these classes would contribute toward your grad GPA.

AADSAS definition (from http://www.adea.org/uploadedFiles/A...nstructions/2015-ADEA-AADSAS-Instructions.pdf):

"Coursework classifications include: Undergraduate (courses taken prior to earning first bachelor's degree), Post-baccalaureate (undergraduate level courses taken after first bachelor degree is earned) Graduate (master‟s degree-level work) and Professional (coursework classified as certificate-level work or coursework taken in pursuit of a degree higher than a master‟s degree)."
