Has anyone else realized that DIT did not redo all the videos this year? For some of the lectures it seems like they took last years videos and has someone speak over the page number. When it is a new video you can tell that Dr. Jenkins has lightened his hair and gained a little weight. This talk over is driving me crazy. 🙁 Did you really think that we would not notice.

For all the money we all paid they could have recorded new videos.😡

Thus, I'm a little annoyed with the videos!!!!!👎

It's basically the same content in first aid 2011 as first aid 2010. If you were running DIT would you waste time re-recording the exact same video again? It is mildly annoying but completely understandable.

Says the person who started a thread named Dr. Brian Jenkins and has posted on just about every DIT thread started. hmmmmmmmm 😕

It makes your product look better to be fresh. 2010 videos are floating online, it would be smart business practice to make the 2011 course look as fresh as possible.

For the first couple days it kind of distracted me, but then after a while when I realized the sheer volume of video there is I kind of stopped caring. Literally, 90%+ of the videos are the same because the content is the exact same.

I dunno, I got used to it.

who cares? He does cover the new stuff that he thinks thats important. If he didnt add stuff each year, then i would be pissed.

I kind of like it. It's like the old edited for TV movies. Like when they put Ferris Bueller on TV. Haha, it makes me laugh every time thinking of Brian Jenkins doing his own voice overs, as if he said something dirty the year before. OK, I am overtired since I am watching 4-5 of his lectures a day. Almost done with day 12..... time to turn to page "98", ok, so on page "98" haha.

While I understand that from the perspective of work load and not wanting to redo a lot, it isn't like people AREN'T paying a LOT of money for that course. Maybe bring in some more people. Figure out different ways to present or teach the content. Just because it is the same in first aid doesn't mean there aren't areas that could've been improved upon.

I have a question about the videos, and rather than post a new thread, I figured I could just hijack this one for a second:

Does anyone know what player the videos are shown on? I would like to not have to haul my laptop into the school to watch the videos, and would rather do it on my Xoom (Android based tablet). Does anyone know if this is possible? DIT has not responded to my email to them yet.

I am under the impression that they are flash based. So my guess is that you wouldn't have any problem. It is definitely either Flash or HTML5, and either way you are good...

It's flash. I know because flash kept freaking crashing on me while I was watching the videos when I first started. (wound up just switching computers, something with my computer, flash and DIT just doesn't work)

Heh, I will say the talkover gets slightly more annoying by days 12-15...I think they lost motivation to keep it real. The random insertions are a little more obvious.

Either that or this thread has made me hypersensitive :laugh:.

The only thing I like about him is that he speaks really slowly...He sort of has this "deer in the headlights" phenomenon going on, though.

After watching his GI lectures, the deer in headlights thing went from annoying to super adorable.
😳

Haha, that's what I'm watching today...😀

I think I want him (or someone like him) to be my surgery attending (Alvey's a surgeon, right?). Then I won't be so intimidated.

I like when he says "don't correct your attending." So cute! I would not mind having him as my surgery attending either. 🙂

I have to tell my husband about this crush so I can stop feeling guilty.

Does anyone else think it is weird that they have no female lecturers for DIT? Just seems odd to me.

Old boy's club? 😉

I mean, it pretty much represents the gender-ratio of lecturers at my medical school, which is also located souttttthhhhwarrrddssss....(DIT is based out of Texas)...very very few female lecturers here, and the ones who do come and lecture are often given subsidiary roles.

Given that there are only 5 lecturers for DIT, you know, I wouldn't necessarily get shocked at none being female. If there were 20 lecturers and they were all men, that'd be a little 🙄. But seriously, since there were only 5, I'm betting they were friends of Dr. Jenkins' and maybe it's not so horrible that he has 4 men friends...

No there are female doctors, but after work they have to get back to the kitchen not teach a prep course!!

Actually, DIT also features a 1950s housewife...now that I think about it...

Haha, I just realized that your profile pic was from Big Bang (which I haven't seen in far too long). I'm missing my regular dose of Amy Farrah Fowler.

My wife LOVES Dr. Farrah Fowler 🙂 I'd guess that she has become her favorite character in fact.

In general I'm not a big fan of the right brain bonuses ESPECIALLY Richard Sammons, I literally mute the computer and wait for him to be done. Also, not usually a big fan of the Mnemonic monsters. That said, have you guys done day 15 yet? The Mnemonic monsters in the second lecture actually made me laugh out loud. If they were all that good, I'd probably remember stuff from them, haha

Yeah, the Richard Simmons excerpts are absolutely painful on the ears (not so great on the eyes either). In general, I have to turn down the volume about three notches for the "right brain bonus" sections. The right brain bonuses towards the end do seem to be a little better because they're less gimmicky - I have a hard time remembering mnemonics that don't appear to be very related to their topic. But I think someone got lazy on the talk-overs towards the end, haha. Some things are out of place.

I'm doing day 15 tomorrow! I'm glad there's something worth looking forward to tomorrow, because the 129 minute lecture at the end has me going --> 😱😱😱.

The collagen mnemonic was hilarious!! I loved that Dr. Jenkins had to giggle through that one. hahaha
