I was talking to my advisor ans she said that working in an optometry office won't look too good on my apps and I shouldn't put too much emphasis on it in. Is that true? I volunteer for a program that deals with eye health, would med school look at it as, Why did you chose to go into medicine instead of optometry?

I understand what your advisor is trying to get at, but I think as long as you have a good answer as to why medicine (and not optometry), you'll be fine.

You should include all of your work history on your application but you also need to prepare yourself to discuss some important issues related to Optometry because these questions will come up in interviews. Go to the Ophthalmology section of SDN and read up on the issue of Optometrists seeking surgical priveledges in Oklahoma and be prepared to discuss the topic.

thank you so much for the advices. it is a good idea to tell them that i did consider optometry but decided against after working there.
