Hey Everybody:

I wanted some advice...I am a P2 and I am going to speak to the manager of a local Target pharmacy about an intern position. Can you give me some kind of idea of what I can expect? With regards to pay, working conditions, overall stuff? I am in Florida.

I have 5 years pharmacy experience retail as well as clinical.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in Advance!!

I remember a few months ago this topic came up if you search "target" you will probably find a thread or two with some good info. I can not remember what the pay was like but I remember people mentioning it is a very laid back internship. Every time I have ever been in a Target store the pharmacy is basically empty, seems like you would get a lot of one on one time to interact with the pharmacist or they might just make you restock OTCs and surf the net.

I would love to hear your experiences from the interview and if you get the internship I would to hear all the details about the working environment and so on...

I am not an intern at Target but I have been a tech for two years and plan on applying for an intern position for school if I can. I can tell you though that I love working at target. Like Idesiretosling said, it's a great environment to get one-on-one time with your paitents. It is laid back and fun. I've worked at Wegmans before, not sure if you know it as it's a northeast grocery, but it was way more fast paced then target and I didn't much care for that. Target can be slow at times but I think the other positives outweigh that.

Hope this helps, Good luck!

Why are targets known for being slow? What do they do differently than most other stores?

Thank You So Much for your post, I am not sure why Targets are known to be slower, maybe people do not think of Target and then automatically think pharmacy - they get distracted by all the cool merchandise, lol. Who knows.

Do you mind telling me what I can expect as a pay rate for P2? Sorry to be intrusive, but I just wanted to kind of know what to expect. Thanks Alot for the help!

Well I read some posts from few months ago and someone interning at a Target in Louisville, KY said they started pay for P1s at 8 dollars and hour and it goes up a dollar for P2. Could be different where you are...... My local hospital starts P1s at 22 dollars and I think Fred Meyer starts at 16-18 dollars...Target pay seems very low but it also seems like it would be an awesome learning environment for lots of personal attention and growth, unless you get a crappy preceptor.

So how about you go ask someone at Target. Seems to me that would be the best place to get accurate info.

That was my first notion, several employees, as well as a pharmacist, at Target have told me that they cannot give that information out, because it is different for everyone. It depends on several varying factors.

But, thank you for your advice, it is appreciated.

I was told the pay for an intern would be anywhere from 12-14 dollars an hour.

This REALLY varies by location... If we are talking about the Florida I live in - be prepared to be paid on the same level as a trained monkey...

Florida has a low cost of living - as such, our hourly pay rates follow suit. I dont have any specific numbers - but it is certain that you will get paid less for the same job then someone in Cali or Oregon. I make 12.xx working as an uncertified technician in a hospital IVC - You will more than likely top that - but my guess is that it wont be much more than that.

As stated before - Forum members can only guess at the average, and there is not enough Florida Target P1s to obtain a proper average. Go in there, find out what they are offering, then ask for more than that.

Good :luck: - let us know how it turns out...
