I am following SN2's MCAT studying guide where he recommends EK Bio over TBR Bio for content, but TBR Bio for passages. I also followed the guide to convert from EK Bio chapters to TBR Bio passages.

However, I found that EK's bio sections go into much less detail the TBR's to the point that some of the questions on TBR bio passages are very hard. Are TBR's bio passages representative of the true difficulty of the MCAT bio passages?

For example, EK doesn't really go into carbohydrates that much, but there were some pretty detailed carb questions in the TBR passages.

I think the consensus on SDN is that TBR Bio is much more detailed and difficult than the MCAT.

Which passage(s) had the detailed carb questions? I did Bio today and I don't remember seeing anything on carbs that wasn't covered in EK. I primarly had trouble with enzyme kinetics.

6-12 had the one on Raffinose and 7-3 had the one with the machine. I had some trouble with those two.

Also, EK explicitly states that we do not need to know Michaelis-Menten Kinetics, but there are many M-M passages in TBR. Which one is correct?

The TBR chapters 6 and 7 seem to be crafted to synchronize with their Ochem carbohydrate chapters, which makes sense. Don't worry too much about that stuff if you're just starting the schedule. It's unreasonable to be expected to know detailed carbohydrate structures right away.

You'll find that once you hit those Ochem chapters, you'll be much better at dealing with carbohydrates (TBR's Ochem Carb Chapter is excellent btw), and it seems that TBR meant for them to be done concurrently with their biochem chapters. I'm not really sure why SN2ed decided to place the biochem chapters at the beginning of his schedule, but the side effect of it is that you can't answer the more Ochem oriented BR questions yet. Focus on the test taking logic for now though - come back to the tough Ochem bio questions later and you'll find they're not so bad once you've gone through BR's Ochem.
